Yeah, next week ought to be interesting. I'm looking forward to it. I honestly don't really remember anything about it except I thought I saw it about when it come out, so say -- 2001 or so. Maybe on cable or VHS from BlockbusterJohnny Carwash wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 10:02 pmIf Twitter banned people who had Patrick Bateman avatars, Barstool would instantly lose 60% of its followers.

Added to my running playlist which has never before been used almost everyday for 2+ months straight and was getting stale so that’s great.

There were some well-written pieces on it for the 20th anniversary around six weeks ago.

Definitely saw AP in the theater. Have not read the book. Have seen the movie once.

I saw it in a second-run theater with a girl I was dating. She did not tell me prior to the movie that she had been drinking wine for hours with a friend prior to me picking her up. It was very good.

I think we've quite accidentally watched some definitely misogynistic movies though.

Fried green tomatoes next week.

I think a contributing factor is that we're watching a lot of older movies. "The Room" is the only one newer than 2000 and that's 2003.

True, though definitely the most misogynistic of all of them. Possibly combined.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 10:13 pmI think a contributing factor is that we're watching a lot of older movies. "The Room" is the only one newer than 2000 and that's 2003.

Re: Swamp Quarantine Movie Night - Rocky IV (1985), Thursday, May 6, 9 PM ET
Just wanted to add regarding the misogyny theme...
I don't think we've been choosing them for that theme, we've just been choosing movies that will make for a fun, smart, and smart-ass watch (I mean, I chose "Showgirls" because it has a reputation for being a horrible movie and viewing it confirmed that said reputation has been well-earned). They've varied in styles, content, etc., but their age shows they are worse because they are the content of an industry that has been centered on males since its inception.
Movies are predominately made by men with men making up the lion's share of casts and leading men making more money than their female counterparts. The industry is still crawling away from that now, but with a greater percentage of movies from this era (1985-2005, roughly) being what we've watched (and will watch next week), it's more a function of mathematical probability than anything else, almost to the point of we would specifically have to look for non-misogyny as the content of movies from that time to avoid it.
The movies on the schedule for the two weeks following "American Psycho" are not going to do us any favors in this realm, either. Part of the reason I wanted to do the one for May 21 is a friend covered it in his podcast and hammered home how thematically problematic women are treated in the film. I haven't seen it in many, many years and expect shitting on that aspect to be a significant portion of the thread on it.
And regarding "American Psycho", based on some of the more serious comments that have been made in these threads, I think the communal watching and posting will lead to a better experience for those who have not seen it (or have not seen it in a while) because of how we handle/discuss these things. Yes, we make jokes and mock stuff, but we also have some concise commentary on society at large.

Yeah, there's nothing to it. Just making an observation.

Added some songs from the OFFICIAL soundtrack to my running list, including War/Fanfare which gave me a jolt when it came on part way through mile 5 this morning. Except both this morning and earlier in the week when it played I hit a mile marker right at the end and the app talked over the reprise of the Rocky fanfare. Dammit.

If you wanted a 93-minute long "making of 'Rocky IV' documentary" (or at least the new version with 40 extra minutes of footage), here you go.

I'm definitely gonna have to watch that at some point, if nothing else in the hopes of getting some answers to questions I've asked myself about the production process on that movie.

Flipped on MTV Classic yesterday and watched the first half-ish of "Burning Heart". The video showed Stallone holding Creed's lifeless body in the ring, so I guess "spoilers" were not a thing in the 80's.
