Yeah, that was amazing.
Okay so great goal...but high stick right? That was above the cross bar. If I am Buffalo, you have to challenge that. Also as soon as the puck is picked up for the "lacrosse" style goal that needs to be communicated and the goalie should be all over the top corner.

The league sent a memo to its officials about the “Michigan”/“Svechnikov” lacrosse-style goal reminding officials that any goal scorer must have his stick below shoulder level when possessing the puck and below the crossbar when putting it home. Otherwise, the stick is in an illegal position
The tricky part is that you have two different rules for two different parts of the play. Players must play the puck with a stick below shoulder height, but can only score a goal when the puck is contacted below the height of the crossbar.
Seems like Milano's stick was not "below the crossbar when putting it home."

Marc-Andre Fleury got his 500th win last night. Pretty good company in the 500 club -- Brodeur, Roy and Fleury. Kind of crazy that the three winningest goalies in NHL history are all Quebecois.

And if you read all the way to the bottom, the NHL saw this move coming: If you pull your goalie in OT and you lose, you forfeit the 1 point for the regulation tie.

Ovi ties Dave Andreychuk for most Power Play Goals in a career. Scored from his office against Marc-Andre Fleury. This also put MAF as the goalie beaten by Ovi the most times (25 times). Moves past Lundqvist for that stat.

In news 99 percent of you guys don't care about (which is totally fair), this is going to further fuck with Michigan's team, as a good number of those guys are likely to get plucked. They are already going to screw the pooch at the Great Lakes Invitational because pretty much their top 2 lines and best defender are at WJ's right now through the end of the month.

The Arizona Coyotes and Their Long Journey to Nowhere

When's the last time a league other than the NHL had owners who couldn't pay their bills?

Giff! Want the Flames? They might be headed your way. Agreed upon arena deal now in limbo again.

But it seems fishy. There's no way the Flames are walking away over simply 9.7 million on overruns.

For lots more info, go to Calgary Puck

Flames Response

What a mess. Arenas are so easily done everywhere else, even the beautiful arena in Edmonton. Flames already playing in the oldest arena in the league.

I really like the idea of pulling the goalie there. As the clip shows, you gotta be patient with your possession for it to pay off.

I just acquired fully comped luxury box seats for VGK v Buffalo the day after I get back to Vegas.

(Taking Joanna assuming she wants to go, Rams Fanny but nonzero chance she flakes and you get the call in the bullpen. I’d know a week before I’m sure.)

It's interesting that McCauley kind of gets away with this on the reg. Seems like someone in Toronto would want him to tone it down.

I happen to find it hilarious.

You are allowed to have a personality like this if the players and coaches respect you and the assignors/head of officials think you are a good official. If you have not seen the 7 minute video on Wes McCauley you get a ton of him talking to coaches, players, and officials. Seems like they get along with him (great response when a player tells him "its hard playing against the 6 out there")

Oh, yeah, McCauley is great. I'm specifically talking about how the league does this dance about fighting and PR. "It's part of the game, but we don't really like it."

I know that's a lazy distillation, but it seems pretty accurate.

So, to have their "star" referee digging in like this is interesting to me.

Edmonton media excuses, excuses.

2-9-2 in last 13

2 or fewer goals in most of those.

Yep, it’s Koskinen.

And don't be fooled, NHL loves fighting. Or else they could simply ban it.
