Harper is my favorite player in the non Joey Votto division (which is a weird thing to say as a 45 year old man) so really disappointed for him. Hard for a 2 time MVP to be underrated, but I think the hype coming in was so high it seems like he's an afterthought.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

It’s definitely pretty rare to have an infielder end a game 1-unassisted.

9 games (and now .500).

Lopez has some nice movement on his pitches (he is a four pitch reliever, so…)…

He paints the corner at 99. Their bullpen has some nice pieces. They get production from different parts of their offense. They have 2 of the top prospects on their farm and they pick #1 overall in the draft. I like the trend.

And they’d be in 3rd place in most any other division but the AL East. They’re fun to watch. Some definitely sub-optimal guys playing primetime positions (Mateo, for example) but as you noted, their minor league system is elite and they draft #1 this weekend.

FWIW I think Rutschman is going to be special.

The more I think about it, the more I realized Rizzo/Lerner made that offer knowing Soto/Boras would reject it. Soto’s 23. The offer was for 15 years, which removes him from any meaningful FA class for the remainder of his time playing baseball.

The AAV on this offer is less than what Judge rejected from the Yankees. And as someone on Twitter pointed out, it would have been relatively nothing to get it to an even $30MM per year, which lends further credence to them wanting to trade him after saying “look how hard we tried”.

It’s almost too good to be true. If I’m Cashman, I offer any meaningful prospect package the Nationals would want. Then extend Soto through his age 28 season (and let Judge walk in the offseason).

That package would likely involve Peraza, Volpe, Dominguez, a couple of their high-end pitching prospects, and maybe even Gleyber Torres.

And that might not be the winning package.

I’m not sure a team is better with Soto than they would be with Judge, Torres, Volpe, Peraza, Dominguez and Waldichuk?

You’re assuming Peraza, Volpe, Dominguez and Waldichuk all reach their potential. Reality says perhaps two of them become MLB regulars, and there’s a slight chance one of them reaches their potential.

That said, potential is easily replaced. I added Torres because I figured Washington would want good MLB talent they could flip for more prospects.

If all four of those guys reached their potential it would be "the worst trade of all time". Short term I don't know there's much of a gap between Judge and Soto, especially with Judge playing a passable CF. Long term obviously you'd take Soto on age alone, but if just one of the prospects hits the trade is probably value negative.

Soto’s better than Judge right now. In 5 years he’ll be significantly better.

The more you peel it, the Nationals might want the team they trade Soto to take on Strasburg’s or Corbin’s contract. That would diminish the return somewhat…

If I’m Soto, I’d think long and hard about extending 2-3 years with a team like the Yankees (short RF porch) where he could showcase his prodigal LH power (protected in the lineup by Judge and Stanton). Then, at age 28, he could ask for the moon in FA.

As for all four of those guys reaching their potential making it the worst trade of all time?

Nah. Juan Soto is arguably the best player in baseball now. He’s 23.

With two outs in the 5th, Toronto is batting .576 as a team tonight. Every starter has double digit hits.
