This would be really good, also (and also directed by Tony Scott - he has a style).

I had "Grosse Pointe Blank" in mind.

9 was perfect for me. I missed the beginning, putting my youngest to bed, but I'd already seen it, and catching up was easy with the breaks.

It probably goes without saying that anything between 5 and 6 PT is perfect for me. I’m technically working until 5.

Ha to "Days of Thunder". And I knew there would be positive reaction to "Grosse Pointe Blank".

I think 9pm Eastern should be fine unless we pick a long movie. Most of the ones we've been kicking around are shorter than "Point Break" which clocked in at just over two hours with closing credits. If nothing else, backing up to 8:30 for a longer movie if people need to, which can be handled case-by-case.

I liked Grosse Pointe Blank a lot. Harder to mock a movie you really like. I’ve never actually seen Days of Thunder.

Agreed. It's great, but too self-aware to work well for this IMO.

I think it has to either be something that lends itself to some serious discussion or something that's easy to tool on (ideally both). GPB is a great, fun movie, but there's not really a lot to talk about I don't think.

It's chock full of lines that I've used for years. I bet it can be done. That being said, there've been a ton of great ideas for the movies list. I'm up for any of them.

Yuuup. One of the most irredeemably bad movies I’ve ever seen.

I’d say there are some pretty iconic performances in there and some great action beats, both of which make a match with the spirit of PB, but I’ll also admit I’ve only made the effort to watch it in full once (in the theater!) and even then thought the end was a bit of a slog.

Another suggestion, because I agree that the first one especially has aged pretty well.

I had never seen Big Trouble in Little China. Noticed it on HBOGo this morning (leaving soon section) and fixed that. Dragged my youngest down to watch it too, since I figured if my childhood was barren at least I could make sure hers wasn’t.

Good one. And this just reminded me how much my sister and I loved The Great Race when we were kids. The kids would probably like that too. Plus daddy probably still love Natalie Wood.

Anyway, really came here to say we really liked Rocketman. Glad I started drinking along with it because singing along was fun and easier that way. Egerton was great.

And blame the booze but when

when Bernie showed up at the rehab at the end I just about cried

I'll find it.

I loved Midnight Madness as a kid too.

How did James McEvoy not get some sort of award for his character(s) in Glass? He was incredible switching between the personalities.

"Knives Out" was really good.

Great to see good actors having fun. Daniel Craig was excellent.

Late to this, but 'Parasite' was quite the mind fuck. Great movie, but holy shit I can't believe it won best picture. So not an Oscar movie.

It seems like the Academy’s change to ranked-choice voting has opened the door for some great films that aren’t typical “Oscar bait” to win Best Picture. Parasite was such a well done movie that I’d guess that tons of voters had it in their top-3 even if not #1.

"Shape of Water," "The Artist" and "Birdman" were also more bizarre than you'd expect from the Academy that so loved "Green Book" and "Argo."

Watched free solo. Solid documentary but I didn’t get the nausea feelings until the last 15 minutes. And of course I knew he made it so I guess tha lt reduced my anxiety.

Have you watched 'The Dawn Wall' about Tommy Caldwell? I thought it was the better movie (and I really enjoyed Free Solo).

Watched "The House the Jack Built". Once again strange and dark does not make a good movie. Also 2:30 is a very long movie for something that did not do it for me.

I DVR'd "Peppermint" because I thought it might be bad enough to be amusing. It was just bad.

Very bad sign in the opening minutes when a birthday party is ruined when no one shows up and mom didn't request RSVPs. Most unbelievable thing in the movie.

I still really want to do "The Room" with you all, especially if we can corral a bunch of guys who have never seen it. Might be one of the funniest 90 minutes in Swamp history. Unfortunately, not available on-demand as a rental so you'd have to buy the DVD. Still I'll put up $100 to buy back some copies if you don't agree it was worth $12 on Amazon. (I watch it about once a year, especially if I have a friend over who hasn't seen it).

I have never seen "The Room" in its entirety, just the handful of clips that get played all the time. I would be down for it.

Looks like it, actually. Not gonna post the link since it might change. I'm surprised it doesn't get taken down because copyrights, but maybe Wiseau figured out it helps him sell more copies.
