In fact, reading that... I wonder if Chedda Jr. looked at this place.
University of Illinois – Willard Airport is one of only two commercial airports in the country owned and operated by an educational institution. University of Illinois – Willard Airport, often referred to by its FAA designation “CMI,” was named for former University of Illinois president Arthur Cutts Willard. Formal dedication of the airport took place on October 26, 1945 with the first scheduled airline service in 1954.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign established its nationally recognized Institute of Aviation at University of Illinois – Willard Airport in 1946 before Parkland College took over the program in 2014.
The only real spot he looked into was Embry Riddle in Daytona. I keep hearing, but don't really trust, that you don't need a bachelor's degree to get in the pipeline with Delta or United as long as you go to their flight schools. He's got Florida prepaid, so he can get a degree if he needs it, but he'll likely just go straight to flight school if he can.

My daughter and 6 other kids rented a seven bedroom house her sophomore year. It wasn't a horrible situation, but it was certainly sub-optimal. As my daughter herself later said, "you really get to know people when you live with them, and with seven people in the house, odds are pretty high that one or two of them will turn out to be terrible housemates."

yeah..

his reasoning is that all his friends will be off campus housing --
he started tellign us he was going to buy a car .. nwo that the house they found is 2.3mi away.. he'll upgrade his bike or catch rides.
and it iwll be cheaper than dorms.. and he'll have his own room -- we'll see. all dependent on grades - and he needs to continue earning the trust back.
all in all good interactiosn - although he really only reaches out when he wants somethign (like passwords so he can watch champion's league or to find out how to fix something on his pc)

none of them cook... so that'll be fun. we have friends that grew up in the area, and have a couple of lawn enforcement contacts down there too - house isn't bad, quiet neighborhood- currently occupied by 7 rider seniors so at least the landlord knows what they're getting into (wonder who cuts the grass)

So that was the B1G Preview, because the conference championships are there next month. The kid scored for the team at that event, and scored this past weekend too (at a massive meet at Lehigh U).

So now I’m on the hook to travel to Illinois to go see her run at the B1G championship.
Is your wife aware that you're also going to have to fly to Illinois?
She is. The race is 11/1 and the youngest was willing to give up Halloween to travel with us. No one has told the dogs yet though.

We're flying into Chicago, renting a car and driving 2 to 3 hours.
Hotel is right across the street from campus so I ran through this morning and it’s really nice. And so unlocked. I was able to get into the rodeo arena, an indoor training facility, and I bet the ice arena was unlocked too but there were a bunch of people in the lobby so I didn’t try the door.

Flew out here with the Seton Hall woman’s volleyball team, headed to DePaul. A group of female athletes from U of Maryland are in our hotel, but my wife isn’t up yet to ask the group of them eating breakfast what sport they’re with. One of them had a name/# on their hoodie so not sure if they’re XC. There is a dude (coach age, not student) in a UMich hat and UMich track and field pullover and blue and maize PJ pants sucking down coffee in the lobby.

I’m curious, which hotel?

The campus used to be insane on Halloween. Did they finally rein that in?

Hampton Inn on West University Ave. I didn’t realize the proper campus was like a block away until this morning.

Only hubbub we saw last night was a line to get into a country western bar called the Rose Bowl. We went to Bunny’s Tavern next door for dinner.

Ah. That’s the opposite corner of campus from where I lived.

It’s probably worth walking around the Quad if you get a chance.

Heading to the university golf course for the meet soon.

And as predicted my wife chatted someone up at breakfast who turned out to be Maryland’s coach. He ran at Seton Hall, and knows one of the coaches there who my kid uses to train with. And is also friends with the XC coach who RU canned at the last moment this summer.

I’m not even sure what that is. Either it’s less than 35 years old or I’ve forgotten it.

If you were in a big grassy rectangular area surrounded by big old college buildings, that was the Quad. The Student Union is at one end, and a small auditorium at the other.

What time is the meet?

Huh. There was no South Quad back then. There were the “south farms,” which smelled like horse and cow shit and no one but Ag students went near.

“The” Quad is a few blocks north.

Just checked the website, there are 18 women on the XC team? Do they all get to run?
