Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
in Philly again last weekend..
second indoor meet..
he was concerned he would break 9:00 in the 3000... first time running that distance..
had he not been pushed/stumbled.. he would won his heat - ran 8:50, second in the heat, mid table overall - he knows better how to handle the traffic.. coach called him a dumbass for getting caught up in it..
loved seeing that smile on his face, and again the family got to see him on esnp+
no meet this weekend - he'll be running in Boston next saturday, unsure if we'll be there or not.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
update on the boy's adventures in d1 track...
got a PR (cut 4 seconds) in the mile two week ago, good enough to get him a spot in the conference race (MAAC) this past weekend at the Armory in NY (and beat his roommate)
saturday ran another PR in the mile, down to 4:20.86 (another 4 seconds).. missed the cutoff for the sunday final by .61.. and got plenty of airtime (announcers talking about his run) on the telecast...he was pissed about it.. but went from 5th to 2nd on his team
sunday was the alternate on the 4x800.. an hour before found out he was running the lead leg.. pulled off at 1:57.9 (new PR), they ran 7:41.7 got the gold.. and the team won the conference championship..
said he'd likely miss his morning classes today.
we'll see if he runs in Boston at NCAA regionals in two weeks
and his grades aren't half bad (right now)

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
Daughter 2 got accepted to every college that she applied to. Her #1 choice is Emerson because there's a program there that she really wants and they are the top school in the country for it (Media Psychology). She's just waiting to see what they'll give her for aid which we'll find out in March. She's pragmatic enough not to bury herself in debt and if it's too much, she gets to go to URI free of tuition (mom works there).
As of now though her second choice is UMass Amherst which she sees as the same as URI. So I asked why then she wouldn't just go to URI to save money. Her reason is that both her boyfriend and best friend go to URI, and she's worried that if she goes there, she'll just hang out with them all the time and won't get the full experience of meeting new people, doing new things, and just sort of growing personally from it.
I just thought that was a very mature way to look at it for a 17-year-old.

That really is a very mature outlook she has!

That's great man.
Trying to convince our Daughter #2 to look at state schools because I'm worried she won't be quite as level-headed about debt. She's thus far refused to even consider Rutgers because it's too big.

That is an incredibly mature outlook...but I do wonder how the boyfriend feels about it.Jerloma wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 4:05 pm Her reason is that both her boyfriend and best friend go to URI, and she's worried that if she goes there, she'll just hang out with them all the time and won't get the full experience of meeting new people, doing new things, and just sort of growing personally from it.

Seeing as JLo refers to her as “The Evil One,” I think he might be dodging a bullet.DaveInSeattle wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 5:54 pmThat is an incredibly mature outlook...but I do wonder how the boyfriend feels about it.Jerloma wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 4:05 pm Her reason is that both her boyfriend and best friend go to URI, and she's worried that if she goes there, she'll just hang out with them all the time and won't get the full experience of meeting new people, doing new things, and just sort of growing personally from it.

Lol, she's a bullet alright. He's a great kid though, I'm sure he supports whatever decision she makes.
A couple of weeks ago, I posted some pictures on FB of me and GF getting a little promiscuous with an armored knight suit at a restaurant. She comments "Oh that's awesome, Kyle. I too think that sexual assault is hilarious." I just had to take it down.

Seriously, I love that. It’s fun when you can start having an adult relationship with your kids. Nothing makes me more proud than my daughter roasting me in a brutally incisive way.

For me, its when my daughters tell me about being hungover. I always had to hide that, as best I could, from my VERY Mormon parents. The Sybian wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 4:30 pmSeriously, I love that. Just got this text from my younger daughter:
Went to see what grade I got on my immunology exam and I got a 96% and my professor personally congratulated me and was like no one ever does this good of a job on this exam bc it's so challenging. My ego is too big rn

Remember when the girls would barely crawl to the window. Now 2 years later they sit and sing acapella. Sophia likes wearing her swim goggles everywhere.
