There is a going away card for the employee we laid off going around to be signed and I'm not sure whether I should sign it or not.

I would decline if this is the person you personally had to let go, but I've been less swampy this week than usual so I may have missed something.

Maybe two swampers got into it last night and tempers are on edge. How would anyone know?

Yeah, I had to deliver the message a few weeks ago and we gave her four weeks to work and use our resources to try to find another internal position.

To tie up this loose end, I signed the card. Today's her last day and she just sent me this. Didn't think I'd be a blubbering idiot this early into the weekend.
I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for the incredible support, guidance, and leadership you have provided during my time here. Working under your mentorship has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my experience.

I have learned so much from you, whether it was your approach to problem-solving, your feedback that helped me grow, or simply how you managed to balance getting results with supporting the team. Your leadership has not only shaped my professional development, but also set a standard that I will strive to uphold throughout my career.

I am truly grateful for the opportunities you gave me and the trust you placed in me. Your encouragement made all the difference, and I will always remember my time working with you fondly.

I wish you and the team continued success, and I hope our paths cross again in the future. Please feel free to reach out if you ever need anything, and I would love to stay in touch.

Thank you again for everything

Him: Hi Blake, should I go to the CP Team for help on how to configure something in the client's system?

Me: No, because they would not be able to help with this as they support a different product and this is not something they do.

Him: OK. Hi CP Team, can you help me configure something in the client's system?

One of my biggest work pet peeves. I don't ask people advice and then copy them on an e-mail where I'm 100% disregarding their advice.

Not working today and I've got a 1/2 day 12/23, 12/24, and 12/31. I may or may not take at least a 1/2 day on 12/30, we'll see.

Today was going to be my last day but I've been working on a big project and decided to work on Monday...then yesterday I got removed from said big project so I have basically nothing important to do. Still going to work Monday so I don't waste a PTO day. I'm lucky that my company closes between Christmas and New Year's...which might be part of the reason why our holiday and vacation policy is lacking compared to other tech companies.

Firm dinner last night. Half ass day of work today. Everyone off until Boxing Day, which will likely be remote or half ass for everyone as well.

Yesterday was my last day until 1/2. Going to be monitoring emails/teams just in case something critical comes up, but going to try to be as checked out as possible.

Yup, today is my last day until 1/6. Looking forward to it! That said, I'll have to find some time to get a number of things done over the break. If I wait until work starts back up, I'll never catch up.

To clarify, we're talking the week of NYE? Or the following. If it's the former, I'm taking a trip to VA "wine country" the first part of that week. If it's the later, I should be around.

We are coming in on the 1st most likely and staying through the 4th. But we got thrown a curveball yesterday. Prob won't affect things too much but the kid rolled their car on the interstate about 2 hours from home. Kid and cat are fine(kid was checked out for a few hours at the local hospital there) but now we have to figure out a new car, etc.

Not a great call to receive when you're in the holiday spirit, just plugging along getting the house ready. Sucked. Also, a few hours earlier, we found out my Brother-in-law's mom died of a heart attack. Out of nowhere. In decent health, but barely lasted to the hospital.

we delivered the news earlier today that we are exiting this one business line.. 40 of my team members are affected.. we'll give them 30 day notice sometime later.. first wave to go in March, last wave in June.
i've spent the last four hours having one on one conversations with team members since the call ended.. crappy start to the year.

On the other hand, that's a pretty long runway. Plenty of time for folks to get a headstart on the job search.
