It may have even been true but can you imagine if after 9/11 if the Democratic leadership had decided to just excoriate George Bush instead of trying to help unite the country? It would have been a colossal bungle. The Republicans are using the playbook and it is what it is now, but once people are getting sick and dying in larger numbers it's going to boomerang back on their asses big-time.

brian wrote: Fri Mar 13, 2020 10:15 am I think Trump and his minions are really failing to see this is a 9/11 or Kennedy assassination type moment in American history and that even most Republicans expect a president who is going to try and unite the country, especially as things get worse over the coming days and weeks. Trump's normal playbook is only going to piss a lot of people who support him off (and further cement his incompetence and narcissism to those who don't support him).

He was never going to be capable of it, because he's who he is, but if he had managed to be even remotely "presidential" through this, he probably could have cemented his re-election. Now, I honestly think it's 50/50 he's even president come November.
And there's no coming back from this. Like, he had his shot this week and he barfed all over his crotch.

Are the Jesse posters from the 1984 election or 1988? I was born in ‘84 and my wife got me a bunch of cool pop culture gifts from that year when I turned 35. If that poster is from ‘84 I’d like to add it to the collection.

I like AOC but progressives who criticize Bernie for the Rogan “endorsement” are absolutely crazy considering that Biden gave a eulogy for fucking Strom Thurmond.

It’s also funny to me that people are saying the pandemic will be the end of the GOP as we know it. Do they not realize that Biden has spent his entire career proving his “reasonableness” rehabilitating the absolute worst Republicans?

I’ll take bets on President Biden literally giving medals to Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell.

I’m going to respond before I know what this is about, so I’ll set myself up to look dumb: Political maneuvering will get leeway, ideological shifts will not. Trump can proclaim he’s M4A tomorrow and keep his base, if Bernie disavowed it he’d be dropped in hours.

I was curious about AOC abandoning Bernie, so I went to look. I don't see any news articles and her last two tweets are retweets from Bernie.

Ah, I found it. But the article is talking about her being mad back in January. She has since stumped for Bernie. And she doesn't appear to have jumped on the Biden bandwagon at all. I'm sure she'll endorse him, at least indirectly, if he's the nominee, but she hasn't yet.

I think she was asked a bit ago "If Bernie isn't the nominee are you going vote for Biden?" She said yes.

As if that's not a question asked for a soundbite completely taken out of context.

I don’t have a problem with assigning an income to it but wish it was a little higher like $200K or $250K. $125K is a lot of money in WV, not so much in NY or CA.

He is supposedly going to Bedminster this month. That terrifies me, as one of the hospitals in my wife's system is his designated hospital when he is in town. She has to work with Secret Service to keep a section of the hospital clear every time he is in town. They can't handle that shit right now, and I am not remotely convinced of the validity of Trump declaring he tested negative for corona. My wife is in charge of communications, and I can't imagine the media shit storm if Trump is in the ICU being treated for corona.

How can Bernie possibly justify making everyone vote Tuesday? He's putting the community in danger with absolutely no chance of winning. He's putting the public at risk just for his own stubbornness. Is he going to make them postponed the Convention on Milwaukee? That only helps Trump win or helps Trump justify moving the election.

Didn’t realize Bernie controlled the state parties in all the states voting on Tuesday. They have every right to postpone their primaries regardless of what he or Biden says. Some states already have done so.

From what I can gauge on Twitter Joe just kept lying and lying.

And I bet Harris becomes the Veep selection because it'll be a great reality show moment that the old white guy gave the young black woman a chance after he held her down with his policies so many years ago. It'll just be political spectacle, but it'll warm everyone's hearts. ♥️

Biden’s incessant misrepresentations about his Iraq War vote are particularly galling. He was a proud cheerleader for George W. Bush in the run-up to the war because that was the “safe” thing for politically ambitious Dems to do. And Biden still won’t own the fact that he got the single most important vote of his career wrong, despite that leading to the deaths of hundreds of thousands and displacement of millions.
