Stuart Margolin, a character actor best known for playing the sidekick to James Garner’s private detective on the hit series “The Rockford Files,” a role that won Mr. Margolin back-to-back Emmy Awards as best supporting actor in 1979 and 1980, died on Monday in Staunton, Va. He was 82.
Angel was such a great character. Pretty amazing that he won 2 emmys playing a character that wasn't in every episode.
I also remember Margolin in a super old (meaning with Frank/Trapper/Henry Blake) episode of M*A*S*H where he played a sex-pest plastic surgeon.
Ha...I was trying to mean a first-generation episode of M*A*S*H. I consider the Frank/Henry Blake/Trapper John seasons (the first 3 I think) to be the Classic...whereas the Potter/BJ/Winchester seasons to be the New Coke of M*A*S*H.
Looked it up....he was in "Operation Noselift" (Season 2, episode #18) as Major Stanley "Stosh" Robbins, an esteemed plastic surgeon and friend of Hawkeye and Trapper (from the MASH wiki page).

One of my fond memories is from nosing around the basement of my grandfather's old farm house when I was about 12, and finding a shitload of old sports magazines from the 1940s and 1950s. Also found a spiral notebook that my grandpa used to keep score as he listened on the radio to the 1950 World Series between the Yankees and the Whiz Kids Phillies. (Yankes swept them.)

That's spectacular.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Oh man, I hadn't seen that Margolin had died. Angel Martin is one of my favorite TV characters of all time. FWIW, I loved the fact the writers of Republic of Doyle were smart enough to get Margolin onboard to reprise that role in one of their episodes.
Damn. I hope I can find some Rockford Files episodes on any of the 14 streaming subscriptions I have at the moment.

Rough time for recreationists yesterday around here. In addition to Block, an employee at Park City Mountain Resort (where my daughter works now) was killed when he fell from a ski lift he was riding; a tree fell on the lift cable and apparently jarred him off the chair. I'm nervous enough on those chairs, especially when my daughter insists we leave the guard bar up.
Edit: Apparently the original link was bad. Here's the report about Block I was linking to:

On January 2, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Wasatch County 911 Center received a call reporting a snowmobile accident in the Mill Hollow area.
Search and Rescue, along with law enforcement from Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Utah State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service responded.
The driver, Kenneth Block, 55-year-old male out of Park City, Utah, was riding a snowmobile on a steep slope when the snowmobile upended, landing on top of him. He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Mr. Block was riding with a group but was alone when the accident occurred.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
We are saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth and our hearts are with his family and friends so deeply affected.
We thank all of our first responders for their continued service.

James Coley, the Buster of Dave & Buster's, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, on his 72nd birthday.
And he was only five tickets shy of finally having enough for the big stuffed panda bear.

Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

That’s a tickets as currency joke, not a mental health joke.
