He hasn't been healthy since 2014 and is on the wrong side of 30. It'd be incredibly impressive.

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
I don't think it is a good bet to expect him to stay injury free, and I don't think the Broncos are thinking that way. But, as I said, affordable price, one-year deal, good influence for younger backs. The potential big upside is worth the risk.Brontoburglar wrote:He hasn't been healthy since 2014 and is on the wrong side of 30. It'd be incredibly impressive.
I bet KC would have resigned him at the same price, but the way I read it is that Charles' ego appeared to be wounded by the demand for another pay cut after taking one last year too, so he wanted out. What say you, Bronto?

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
The Chiefs have very little cap room, so I doubt they were willing to pay even what the Broncos paid -- especially after drafting Kareem Hunt.sancarlos wrote:I don't think it is a good bet to expect him to stay injury free, and I don't think the Broncos are thinking that way. Football guys don't always get out much. This was tweeted by the then-president of the Raiders, Amy Trask:

So, would a person have to now wear a tie with his Cutler jersey?

Give me a minute, first I'm going to run a quick check to see if Barstool has used "A for effort" recently. Just a hunch ; P

Bet the Raiders' stadium gets delayed past the current plan, too.

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
I'd be surprised if the Raiders stadium doesn't get done in time. There's very little prep that needs to be done for the site so as long as the lease approvals and environmental studies required don't show anything weird, they should be able to start work in November or December. Weather is unlikely to impact construction like it did in the case of the LA stadium.

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
NFL moves Super Bowl LV (Feb 2021) to Tampa and moves LA's Super Bowl to Feb 2022.
This means Las Vegas getting Super Bowl LVII in Feb 2023 is pretty much a dead-nuts certainty.

The NFL is allowing celebrations...to a point. It's still a no twerk zone.

Florio sucks so bad.
This is disguised as a potshot at the Lions for not signing Kaepernick as an "experienced" backup QB, then mentions a bunch of shitty backup QBs on the market as worst-case alternatives, ONE OF WHICH WAS THE LIONS ACTUAL BACKUP QB LAST YEAR.
This is Trumpian self-awareness here.

You may have heard that Calvin Johnson was attending the Raiders' OTA workouts this week, as a spectator. This follow-up article is probably just bullshit non-news, but that said, here ya go: LINK

Couldn't they still end up re-signing that guy if they have to?

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
I wouldn't be surprised if Kaaya made it easier on him. Just seems like the type of QB that might show something. I'm a Carolina guy but not sure theres a huge gap between Trubisky and Kaaya. I don't know the 2016 guy but like the strategy of multiple late round QB picks even though they have one.

I make a similar face when I click one of wlu_lax's links and it's invariably to the Washington Post or WSJ and I can't read the article.

Google the headline on the WSJ articles, then click from the google results. Works a lot of the time.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Yeah, I do that sometimes and it usually works. Doesn't work for WaPo though. I hadn't tried incognito mode before, but it does seem to work for WaPo.A_B wrote:Shirley wrote:I make a similar face when I click one of wlu_lax's links and it's invariably to the Washington Post or WSJ and I can't read the article.

There needs to a special URL that launches into incognito.

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
I admit keeping an open mind on the "Kaepernick is being blackballed" take, but after the Seahawks signed an absolute chump as a backup to Wilson, I really believe it.

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
The part that I don't understand is that most teams choosing not to sign Kaepernick could easily fall back on a generic "his strengths/weaknesses do not mesh well with our offensive scheme" excuse. He is a player with significant flaws who had his greatest success in an uncommon offensive scheme. But, no, "distraction" and "our fans" are easier and better excuses.brian wrote:I admit keeping an open mind on the "Kaepernick is being blackballed" take, but after the Seahawks signed an absolute chump as a backup to Wilson, I really believe it.

Re: 2017 NFL Offseason
That excuse holds a lot less water in Seattle since Kaepernick at his best is a fairly similar QB to Wilson. I don't want to get in the weeds on their differences, which I realize exist, but Kaepernick backing up Wilson almost makes too much sense, especially if finances were not an issue (which they apparently were not).DSafetyGuy wrote:The part that I don't understand is that most teams choosing not to sign Kaepernick could easily fall back on a generic "his strengths/weaknesses do not mesh well with our offensive scheme" excuse. Not to overly defend the Lions, but they're the team I follow the most, but I don't think he would have made sense there especially after the draft (before the draft, maybe, but my understanding is that Kaepernick was looking for about $5M a year, which is reasonable for a backup but the Lions didn't have that kind of money to spend or the luxury to put that down on a backup at QB, especially since they're about to give Stafford the highest or second-highest contract in NFL history.
There's a whole bunch of other teams out there though I don't understand why you wouldn't want to pay him $4-5M to backup your starter. Just about the whole damn AFC South for starters.

I'm a very intense NFL fan and fantasy player. Before looking it up I legitimately knew nothing anything about Austin Davis: the team he played for, how bad he sucks, his race, etc.brian wrote:I admit keeping an open mind on the "Kaepernick is being blackballed" take, but after the Seahawks signed an absolute chump as a backup to Wilson, I really believe it.
