So are Venezuelans and even a lot of Central Americans and Mexicans. The Latino vote isn't monolithic. Nor is the Black vote frankly. In fact, if there's one good thing about this result if it ends up to be a Biden victory is that I think the Dems will finally have learned that lesson.
Florida Cubanos are a different breed. They are militantly convinced that Biden is a socialist traitor who should be imprisoned, not just "we prefer the GOP candidate" types.
Do we know how the Cubanos voted in 2016? Hillary did much better than Biden in Miami-Dade County, right? Any idea if the difference was among Cubanos vs other groups?

Was this supposed to be in orange font?
No, there was going to be a changing of the guard after this election. That's what happens when your presidential candidate is 77 and the Speaker of the House is 80. The next generation of Dems who will lead the party (Kamala Harris, AOC, even a more centrist type like Cory Booker) are a lot more realistic about the state of the electorate I think.
OK, this makes a little more sense, but it isn't Dems learning a lesson, it's old ass Dems dying off.
Potato, potatoe. But seriously all I'm seeing right now is a lot of soul-searching and that's after what appears to be a historic victory (i.e. incumbents do not lose very often). Whether that gets followed through on is another story of course, but I don't think anyone in a position of power in the Democratic Party has to feel much like celebrating this week, which ultimately is hopefully a good thing.

Echo the LOLs for Democrats learning from this.

25 year old Madison Cawthorn beat a retired colonel. He's wheelchair bound and a breath of fresh air for outreach to young Republicans everywhere. He will immediately become a shining star in the party.

Now look at Democrats with AOC. Democrats prefer John Kasich over a young, intelligent Latina from the Bronx who doesn't take shit from anyone.

If McConnell has 52-53 Senators, as appears likely, I think any significant legislation on health care, the environment, immigration or court reform is DOA until 2023 — regardless of whether the Dems had any intent to follow through on the those parts of their campaign platform.

My bigger concern is that McConnell outmaneuvers Biden on economic relief and gets Biden to agree to crippling longterm austerity measures in exchange for short term stimulus. After all, the deficit only seems to matter when Dems are in the White House.

Yup. Just said to one of my co-workers that the logical next step for Mitch’s escalation is to hold Cabinet seats hostage. He could potentially draw the line at “no one left of John Kasich gets confirmed.”

Don't really care. I want Trump gone.

What I do care about more is that this is not a 1945 Germany defeat but instead a 1918 Germany barely-not-really-defeat.

Tom Cotton, Josh Hawley and maybe even Little Marco are probably secretly celebrating this outcome as it leaves the door wide open for them to run against Harris in 2024 as a less senile, more polished version of Trumpism.

Sure, Cotton or Hawley especially is the nightmare scenario. Like PDX said, don't discount Trump or one of his kids getting into the mix either though. If Trump somehow manages to evade prison, it's not like he's going quietly into the night. He'll be throwing bombs on Fox News for the next four years and the GOP primary for 2024 will be very revealing as to how much of Trumpism really is a cult.

My hot takes:
1. The Dems wasting so much money on going after Kentucky and Georgia may also be a case of them spending money poorly. Trump spends so much more on Facebook and I wonder if we're seeing that money spent on tv is becoming a waste.
2. Pollsters are getting bashed for messing it up again, but my conspiracy theory brain remembers that wrong polls may indicate voter fraud -- I remember there was a lot of talk about that in Ohio with Kerry's defeat, but there doesn't seem to be much talk about it now. Trump not wanting people to vote by mail may have been also about him wanting the votes to be processed by favorable machines along with knowing libs are big wusses about Covid.
3. Biden should nominate Hillary as Attorney General.

This has been obvious since January.

Had he not yanked the embedded epidemiologist out of the Wuhan province or ignored the playbook, and chose to attack the pandemic as a ‘rally around the flag’ moment, he’d have got the knuckle-dragging idiots to follow along, and we’d have been watching the slow-motion realization that he’d win 2020 in a cakewalk. We’d have come to terms with it, too.

But Trump is a malignant narcissist and as such, feels success is obtained by sowing division, so that wasn’t going to happen.

I go back on forth on this. No question about the TV/media empire part--it will get rid of his debts--but I can't ever see him endorsing anyone for the GOP nomination again other than himself. Not even his kids. Even if he doesn't want to do it at first, he'll talk himself into it.
