The Swamp

After things calm down, we take the opportunity to hold another Swampcrash, which we hadn't done in a while. The successful event brings us another new joiner. Hey look, it's sancarlos!


Paul 'sancarlos' Pope was recruited as a spy during his childhood, making him a master of social manipulation. He then went on to a career making artisanal furniture for wealthy clients. He is good at constructing things but not much else and can't fight worth shit. He is slow but on the other hand is a quick sleeper. He arrives exhibiting emo hair while wearing a bison skin jacket and a yellow chef's hat for some reason.

Let's see how sancarlos is getting along with his fellow colonists...Uh oh...


Despite sancarlos's inferior fighting skills, brian suffers a cracked jaw for the indiscretion.

The dreaded cannibal pirate gang of the Crossbow Monkeys announces its return with a raid, bringing a mortar with them. However, we've built up an arsenal of our own and BFJ, bapo, and sancarlos take to our mortars to counter the bombardment.


A precise hit by bapo ignites the raiders' stack of mortar rounds, causing a chain reaction explosion that takes out a couple of them. Looks like Mitsuya learned not to underestimate the strength of bapo's discharge:


Rattled by our bombardment, the raiders abandon their opening position and rush forward to take us head on, moving across our fields to the east wall of our base. Looks like Dan here is aware of bengal's reputation:


We take up a firing line and manage to mow down a number of the raiders before they can reach our position. AB bravely rushes out to head off a flanking attempt and suffers 10 gunshot wounds, but will recover. The Crossbow Monkeys have had enough for now and withdraw.

The Republic comes to our aid once again. The same Crossbow Monkeys have been harassing Republic caravans in the region, and they ask us to send a challenge message that will draw the pirates to our location where we can hopefully pick off enough that the caravans can travel safely again. It figures to be a tough fight, but we accept. To help out, the Republic sends two of its elite guards, zumba and BillCross.


Not long later, the Crossbow Monkeys are back in force. Not sure how much we have to fear from a group with names like Prissy and Calcium and a fat shirtless guy in a cowboy hat named Stefan.


Once again they set up a mortar position and once again we respond in kind. They feel the pain early.


Their main attack commences and after a few desperate moments we once again get the upper hand. The pirate Sebastian cuts off zumba's nose but then has his skull cleaved by BillCross's plasma sword.


With the battle over, zumba and BillCross pack up and head home, though with one fewer nose between them. For our efforts, the Republic promotes chedda to the title of Praetor, which sounds important.

Oh, and just a day later, look who wants our help all of a sudden. Should I even bother with a poll, or just assume we're all on Team Kangaroos?

The hottest new club is called RIMWORLD, it has crossbow bearing monkeys named Calcium and Prissy, angry Kangaroos, Space Taliban, Plasma Sword wielding Swampers, noseless Bill Cross', vomiting sculptors, mortar firing fat guys and more.

Wait, the same crossbow monkeys who keep attacking us now want our help? why would we not let them get mauled by kangaroos?

Hey, sorry for the lack of updates the last week or so, have a number of things going on. Still plan on getting back to this. I want to take some time and put some more thought into how it plays out from here, getting into some more interesting elements so it's not just a repeating loop of all the things we've seen before. Stay tuned.

They do have the ability to reanimate the dead. You just have more psychotic breaks.

Hey guys, thought this would be the best place for an update. I haven't completely abandoned Rimworld, it's more just running into a creative funk and being burnt out on the work that goes into each update.

I did want to let you know that I'm working on another game-type project to possibly share here. It would be the most ambitious one yet, and I'm not entirely sure that I'll be able to pull it off, but if I can get it to work it might be something special. This one would also have the aspect of interactivity and something you guys would be potentially able to play yourselves if there's interest.

Sorry if the bump gave you a spike of anticipation that this would be another Rimworld run, but just thought I'd share. If/when I make some more progress with this new project, I'll share here.

So what I'm working on is a Swamp-themed role playing game where the player journeys through a fantasy world populated by Swampers doing various quests. The quests and dialogue would be based on various references and in-jokes about things we've discussed here.

I'm working with the creation tools in a popular game (Neverwinter Nights), so it would be something you guys could download and play yourselves if interested, but I'd also do the conventional narrative updates here like I did with Rimworld.

Again, it's really ambitious, and I'm not sure I have the game designing chops to pull it off, but I'll keep you posted and maybe share some updates here as I progress.
