Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
On the 5th the Jays scored 11 runs after the first two batters got out. That must be a record.

... and runs scored.
Pulling for a unique score tonight. I can't find anything updated, but from what I can find one or both teams need to score some more. There has never been a 25-0 game, but every score from 25-1 to 25-13 has happened excepting 25-9. According to this chart, 29-3 and 31-3 would also be unique, but this was posted in August of 2018.

So happy I don't have cable right now. I could pay $30 a month for NESN streaming...

Inside the park grand slams seem like they would be exceptionally rare.

Duran is one of their antivaxer assholes, looks like the front office is going with the brilliant Jon Lester/Mookie Betts strategy on Bogaerts and Devers, and it looks like Cora is clashing with Bloom. Soon, no Devers, Bogaerts or Cora but if I sign up for $30 a month NESN streaming I get 8 free Red Sox tickets.
Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
That sucks. I mean, the Sox had the $ to keep Betts. They have the money to keep Devers and Bogaerts, too. Had they done that, they could’ve charged you $40 for NESN streaming.EdRomero wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 10:57 pm Duran is one of their antivaxer assholes, looks like the front office is going with the brilliant Jon Lester/Mookie Betts strategy on Bogaerts and Devers, and it looks like Cora is clashing with Bloom. Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
Can you elaborate? I don't care about the Sox, but it looked like a routine deep fly to center that should have ended the inning. The LF tore ass to get to the ball after the CF lost it and all anyone except the cut-off man can do on that play is stand and watch. And the throw to the plate was hopelessly late because the batter was halfway around third by the time he got the ball.
If anything, rip your CF for not trying to make up for his mistake and make sure he's in this blowout laugher to the end. What else should the rest of the players have done?

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
I agree on that play it's just Duran but it's like the 5th fly ball the team has lost in the air the last few weeks. That seems to be lack of focus, although Duran blamed it on twilight and asked reporters if they ever try to catch a fly ball in twilight. Great antivaxer guy.
Also that play is in context of them losing by a record amount of runs over the last week (I can't find the tweet)

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
The CF who lost the ball in the lights should’ve been backing up to keep the play in front of him, not stand around like a fool. Then once it landed and he realized where it was, he casually walked towards the ball (because he assumed the LF would reach it faster?). The CF needed to haul ass to the ball and once the LF reached first, fade off the route so the LF can hit the relay in shallow LF-CF. I guess we have different definitions of quit.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 9:07 amCan you elaborate? Okay. So one player, the CF, quit despite you saying "team" in your previous post.

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
This is one thing I don’t get … when OFs lose the ball early, they tend to freeze like Duren did rather than run back diagonally (so they don’t eat one). Maybe it’s just too rare of an event or they think they’ll find it again or whatever, but it sure seems like most of these end up landing behind them.
Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
I mean, they went on to lose by 23 runs. The CF looked lost and quit on the play. The team seemed to take that cue and ran with it.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 4:31 pm Okay. So one player, the CF, quit despite you saying "team" in your previous post.
Cora’s got a real problem here.

Yeah. It’s important to note the gesticulating like a bird in a mating ritual is an alert to the other OFers to come over and assist.mister d wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 9:37 pmThis is one thing I don’t get … when OFs lose the ball early, they tend to freeze like Duren did rather than run back diagonally (so they don’t eat one). Ed Romero’s right - there’s been several instances of Sox OF’ers losing the ball in the lights at Fenway the past several weeks. Not sure why, but it might just be Duran and Verdugo aren’t that good. JBJ hits with a wet newspaper, but he’s a freak in the OF.

That's apparently the 6th incidence of this in the last three weeks.

Are these fucking clowns going to get swept at home to the Cubs?

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
The Peacock play-by-play is decent enough, while just in the last-half-inning, John Kruger just swiped at Ben Simmons, and Brian Didntcatchhislastame just said that he ghosted AJ Pierzinski. At least that’s worth it.

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
Tapia almost got another inside the park grand slam if that ball had rattled around more in the center field triangle.

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
The O’s have taken the first two games of a four game set vs the Rays. They got to McClanahan on the first pitch in the O’s half of the inning when Cedric Mullins deposited his FB into SRO in RF…And then a few innings later Santander got to him by rocketing a shot to the O’s BP. So Shane McClanahan lasted 7 IP, but had only thrown 81 pitches. The only two hits he gave up were those HRs…
Anywho, he exited with the Rays up 3-2, and his successor, Colin Poche, promptly gives up a hard hit single to Adley Rutschman, and then Ramon Urias crushed a HR to L-CF. Poof. Lead gone.

Joey Gallo's career BA is .201 and at this point really just rooting for him to finish this season like 5-for-100 so he can put away the all-time major league record for ABs with a career average below .200

So what's the deal with this Mike Trout back injury? Did the trainer talk out of school or is this real?
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

I mean, that's a nice story and all, but that's an error, not a HR. I don't care if he lost it in the sun.

Everyone is probably waiting on my Benintendi take so here it is: Seems fine. Very similar to the Gallo trade but even less went out so there was zero reason not to jump. Hope it upsets some Boston fans.

Re: MLB 2022 Season Thread
Eh. It’s a trade deadline deal. There’s always going to be a perceived overpay, but 9x out of 10 once a few of those highly touted prospects turn into replacement level ballplayers, life goes on. Frankly, the move puts Castillo into a three-headed mix with Gilbert and Ray atop the M’s rotation, and perhaps as importantly keeps TOR or TB from swooping in.
