Phil Ball has two good pieces on this from earlier this winter. One in the Guardian and one on ESPN. He tweeted them this morning.

I thought FIFA or FIFAPro got involved when this happened. Basically players were given the green light for free transfers.

Now 3 Americans in charge of National Teams
Thomas Dooley is the new coach of the Philippines National Team. I would ask if you could name the other 2 but don't think you would know Jack Stefanowski (Nepal) and Ian Mork (Belize).

No. No I wouldn't. Despite being the one-time captain of the USMNT, I have a hard time viewing Dooley as an American. Dude couldn't even speak English. Remember those salad days when we had resort to fielding German guys who were fathered by US Servicemen? Glad we have evolved past that.

Once again....Does the EPL not care about TV at all? Maybe today would have been a good day to have one of the teams wear their 2nd or 3rd or 4th kits. You know not the Blue one. Sure light blue and blue are different enough, but even in my local youth league someone would have been wearing the yellow pinnies.

just look at the blue and white shorts.

I least the shirts are solid. In other places it's red/white stripes against white/black stripes both teams wearing black shorts

Could be worse. at least they aren't "invisible" like the 95-96 ManU away kits. These were worn for an entire half before being permanently scrapped, as the players said they were't able to see each other on the pitch.

It was not as bad as the game earlier this year you are referencing, but I should not have to look at the shorts. Blue and Light Blue were able to be distinguished, by why should it even be an issue. NHL does this very well. NFL Does this well. NASCAR does this well. TV matters so they should optimize the visual for the games. Wasn't this the big thing about 1994 World Cup. Names on jerseys, Refs in something besides all black, bigger numbers on the uniforms.

Iranian Soccer Federation to sex test all female players. I jumped to the conclusion that this was a horrible misogynistic thing, but according to the article, it has been an ongoing problem, including 4 members of the female national team either being men, incomplete sex change operations, or unclear gender due to birth defect. The uniform includes a baggy 3/4 pants down to the socks, a baggy oversized shirt over the jersey shirt and head covering, so you could see this happening.

The most surprising thing in the article is that sex change operations were declared legal by fatwah in 1979 by Ayatollah Komeini.

Unconstitutional? Any German legal scholars out there? Suntzu? That other German guy that used to post in the soccer threads? Very curious about this, and whether Scientology is gaining popularity in Germany or among soccer players.

The MLS teams have done a fairly complete job of using classic soccer team designations such as "F.C.," "United," "Real" etc.

So why not continue the trend with "Spartak Miami?"

The Euro draw is interesting as 24 teams will qualify. So you have top 2 teams + 1 3rd place get through, then you have 3rd place teams playing a home-home series. This should be favorable to some teams who have just been outside the finals the last few years. Group I could be the year Armenia gets through, Wales and Israel probably are not too unhappy about group B. Group D will seem competitive for spots 2-4

Plus we get the "week of football" for international matches meaning more international games on TV not conflicting with each other.
