That Bud Crawford-Amir Khan card was garbage. Couple of typical mismatches with young up and coming Top Rank stars against veterans with no power followed by Amir Khan quitting after a low blow in the 5th round. He could have continued, but was getting shellacked.

Alvarez-Jacobs as a decent fight between two good boxers.

I scored it 115-113 Alvarez, similar to the Judges.

But holy shit, Brian Kenny the announcer somehow called this fight with Alvarez's dick in his mouth. As early as the 2nd round, he made it sound like Alvarez was crushing Jacobs. Guess this is what happens when a drone like Kenny is paid to call the network's golden boy.

You have to watch the Anthony Joshua-Andy Ruiz Jr. fight. It's as if a fat Rocky pummelled Apollo Creed into submission. Unreal.

But Canelo really is an amazing boxer. Never really liked him, but man, that was amazing.

Just slightly ahead. I had him winning 4 of the first 5 by virtue of the fact that he was jabbing Canelo back. But it became pretty clear that the Jab was all he had.

Brilliant fight by Canelo.

Watched it the next day, and even though I knew the outcome, it was still shocking.

Douglas should have been way ahead on the scorecards, but one judge had it even, one had Tyson up by a point and one had Douglas up by six points.

Tyson really is one of the most overrated athletes of my lifetime.

Not that he wasn't good, but he's not even one of the top 5 heavyweights of my lifetime.

I remember that fight clearly. I don't know if I'd go as far to say that Tyson was overrated, but the most charitable way to describe his chin was "suspect".

Yeah, but I'm comparing him to Ali, Frazier, Holmes, Norton, Holyfield, Lewis even Klitschko.

He couldn;t have beaten any of these guys.

I was 13, in Waco visiting family and remember that day pretty clearly. I alternated between the dunk contest (not realizing the little PG from the Kings who should've won would soon have a permanent place in my sports heart) and the fight. Got to hear my uncle yell a racial slur as Tyson was getting counted out. Watched The Day After after.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like they're running old Tyson fights after that as well, although the run time for most of them is much shorter than the Rumble and Thrilla.

It looks like it's on ESPN2, not ESPN, if you're interested in recording it.

Just catching up on this thread. Pruitt, your take is reasonable with the benefit of hindsight, but surely you remember what Tyson had been up until that point (and, why he was rated so highly). He regularly knocked out all the other top heavyweights in the first round. I saw Ali, Frazier and Foreman at their peaks, but none of them matched the ferocity and menace of the 1980s Tyson. He was a scary sight to behold. So, at that time, many seasoned, respected observers thought they were witnessing an athlete whose boxing reputation would be on par with all the greats. Thus, the immense shock everybody felt when he lost to Douglas.

Oh absolutely, my opinion is based on hindsight.

I'll never forget seeing Michael Spinks (who was a hell of a good fighter) basically faint as the fight started. Tyson was a beast... but if you look at his record, other than Spinks, Bruno and (I guess) Ruddock and Tucker, he never beat any good fighters in their prime.

And the great fighters he faced - Holyfield and Lewis - made him look like a club fighter.

Yeah, Lomachenko was a bit too cagey early on.

Would definitely watch a rematch... but will pray that Joe Tessitore doesn't call the fight. He's fine once the action starts, but his hype levels know no bounds. He was talking about this fight as though it were Ali-Frazier, VE Day and the Second Coming all rolled into one.

I bet loma kinda heavy and regret it. Took him to win by KO/TKO and the fight to not go the distance. Didn’t like what I saw early, then backed it up again in the 7th when Loma started to really fire and I got better odds.

Oh well. 119 - 109 is a tragedy. I didn’t disagree with the decision but what fight was she watching? Just American bias or?

Russell Mora is a notoriously terrible ref. How some of these guys keep getting big fights is beyond me.

Bud Crawford is tremendous. But Tessitore just needs to shut up.
