Ruttiger was gonna kill somebody. Needs a good long suspension…
100%.
Real Madrid showing an utter lack of class that is consistent with their recent identity. If I cared more about La Liga, they might be my least favorite franchise in professional sports.
Ancellotti is probably glad that he's out the door after the season.
And after seeing the clown show that was the Real Madrid sideline during extra time yesterday, any chance that Trent Alexander-Arnold might have second thoughts about leaving the Liverpool love-fest?

How'd you guys do? I think I got 16 or 16.5.
Very cool, I wish he’d make these videos for my daughter’s games. And for two of her teammates I wish I could make videos like this of their decisions…
I’m going to send to my mom. She watches every Arsenal game and wants to understand more. She makes comments on big picture thoughts, and she’s usually right. I think this is the perfect way to see the game at the next level. Definitely sending to my daughter, too.

Absolutely. It was a lot of fun. I did much better than I expected. Fortunately, it was mostly offensive tactics and that's what I played and my instincts are still always about finding space and creating space by moving defenders. Whenever I had to play defense in adult soccer, it took so much more of my brain power to think about going against my instincts and trying to close space rather than drift into it.
Sounds like it would be perfect for me to watch. I have an old friend who is a big Arsenal supporter and our texts during the matches are hilarious to me because I'll say the most obvious thing followed by 14 texts from him either celebrating or criticizing things that I'm not noticing since I'm so new to following the sport.

Wrexham about to be promoted to the Championship, lead Charlton 3-0
Any time you do something for the only time in 160 years that’s impressive. Good thing Ryan Reynolds has that tequila and cell phone money because shit’s about to get really real with their wage bill and most Championship sides laugh at a 13,000 seat stadium so there’s not too much more revenue they can wring out of their owners or the ground.
It’s a great story but don’t ever see them making the Premier League.
Luton made it with a smaller ground, didn't work out so well in the end though.
It’s not impossible of course but even the TV show money is a pittance compared to what a club with a 30,000 seat ground can generate in revenue not to mention Wrexham isn’t exactly London or Manchester or even Cardiff so there’s only so much money than can be wrung from the Hollywood angle and my guess is that revenue stream is probably more or less maxed out.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m rooting for them bc it would be an amazing story. But their recent financial disclosures show that they’re generating way more revenue than a typical League One side but average for a Championship side and it’s hard to see how much more they can bump that up. They are building a permanent stand to replace the temporary one and that might add another 3,000 seats I believe and obviously that’ll help.
The financials for this year won't come out until around this time next year, but... From League 2 financials (2024), they had revenues in excess of 26 million pounds. By way of context, the average for other League 2 teams was about 5.5 million. Championship teams average around 22 million.
This was LAST YEAR in League 2... So, they are already perfectly capable of competing within the financial realm of the Championship.
Not to mention... It's a little bit too linear to think Ryan/Rob would need to foot the bill for a Premiership squad, no? Other investors are already clamoring for a seat at the Championship table. No reason to think more won't come calling if they make another leap.
I'm not saying it's a given by any stretch, but I wouldn't worry too much about their ability to make the financial leap.

That was fun. I did well, but missed a couple because I'm a goalie and some of that subtle stuff in the first 5 or so questions was a little tricky. It was a little difficult on a few given the lack of run-up/context.

There were a few I thought his answers were debatable. I wouldn't say he way wrong on anything he said, and he even acknowledged a few had multiple "right" answers. I didn't worry about getting answers right or wrong, but focused on the fun of thinking it through and hearing his analysis. He was a little more aggressive than me on long balls. I opted for safer passes out wide on one or two that he called for a low percentage long ball.

Yeah, but the thing is, opportunities and windows are so scarce and short-lived at that level, that you have to try to take advantage of them when they're there. If nothing else, it helps stretch the defense and maybe pushes them out of a high press and/or high line.
The thing about those runs behind is that it takes a guy with a huge pain threshold to be effective. One of the USMNT's issues is that their wide players tuck in too often, assuming the outside backs are going to make that flanking run. That's asking a lot and the midfield needs to be much more aggressive than they have been recently.

The problem isn’t even RR/RM not having the money and having to bring on investors. They’ve already brought in some other more silent investors. It’s keeping within the FFP rules. But it will be interesting to see their financials from this year. They will have enhanced sponsorship opportunities with the additional promotion and not sure what the status of the new kop is. Guessing they might bite the bullet and try to have the permanent kop ready for 26-27 and go without the temporary stand this season but I don’t follow them that closely.
