My middle son texted me a month or so ago, "hi, doechii is at my school". I hadn't heard of her at the time. She went to his high school and came back for a visit when her tour was in town. She's on a track on CHROMAKOPIA and played Late Show within the last week. She's nominated for three Grammys (New Artist, Rap Performance, and Rap Album). Good shit, check it out.garyclark wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:31 pmToo soon to tell for me, but you could be right. Just wanted to let you guys know some Swamp favorites are part of a couple tributes for the Kennedy Center Honors airing tonight on CBS.
Dave Matthews and Brandi Carlile part of the Bonnie Raitt tribute. Sturgill Simpson, Leon Bridges, and Matthews are among others in the Grateful Dead tribute. Long show, so perhaps recording or going on demand to skip around is the best.

With my new car, I get a 3 month SiriusXM subscription, but I'm fairly overwhelmed by trying to figure out what channels to check out. Any guidance?

That first post is going on 9 years old and I don’t have that car anymore, but still pretty accurate channel-wise (backspin is now Rock The Bells). I do a lot of channel changing while driving. I’m just looking for something I like, especially on longer drives.
My favorite overall channel is The Loft, which is app only these days.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: Getting the spins
I’ve always liked The Loft. I was bummed when they demoted it to app only.

Our 'first page' of channels is Deep Tracks, Underground Garage, Yacht Rock, First Wave, Grateful Dead, & Phish channels. XMU got demoted to the second page when Yacht Rock gained permanence.DaveInSeattle wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 4:43 pm With my new car, I get a 3 month SiriusXM subscription, but I'm fairly overwhelmed by trying to figure out what channels to check out. Also I was bummed when The Loft got demoted. We also go back and forth on Underground Garage and the Real Jazz station.

It came up fourth after letting YT ride after "Right Back to It". That, "She's Leaving You" by MJ Lenderman, "Expert in a Dying Field" by the Beths, then Rylan. My algorithm is dialed in at the moment.

I'm on a work-related WhatsApp chat, and someone was like, "should we switch off WhatsApp because of Meta's recent actions?" And someone else was like, "What are the other options? They're all owned by billionaires who are part of the same problem. And by the way, so are the people who make the phone you're using."
It's tough. To be clear, not saying this to convince you to quit Spotify because I think we're all just trying to navigate this and pick our battles.

I downloaded Signal earlier this week, registered, but have not used yet. Probably should replace WhatsApp with it, even though I don't use it for much.

Re: Getting the spins
I'm officially out of Spotify. Tidal has been a very pleasant experience. Sound is noticeably better (even on cellular data on my stock truck stereo) + interface is nice and simple. Overall seems to be more album-oriented, which makes sense given its market. There's a 3rd-party app that will allow me to transfer all my playlists for ~$5, which I'll do at some point. (Note for the interested: there's a 30-day trial... and it's a couple bucks cheaper to subscribe directly through Tidal website than the apple app store, naturally.)garyclark wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 9:07 amI get that. One of the challenges I face is that my friends and I share and create playlists together on Spotify. But it might be possible to move that.

I would have sworn I shared this thought here earlier, but Doechii blowing up is like when Doc Gooden was a rookie for me. Just a supernova from MY TOWN. Not since him has there been a local make it so big. There's a lot of reasons to not be so proud of home, it's nice to have a reason to feel this sense of pride in place.
