They're on their way to another record chase. Chasing 368 against Australia, they've reached 104/0 after 17 overs. If they don't lose wickets in the next 13 overs they'll set up a manageable T20 chase.

I just took Pakistan at 4/1 so this will be fun to watch.

Wouldn't be chasing so many if they hadn't dropped Warner twice

Pakistan score exactly 200 in 30 overs but lose 3 wickets. 168 T20 chase now.

Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews became the first batter to be timed out in international cricket during Monday's World Cup group-stage match against Bangladesh in Delhi.

Some of the other instances it has happened "Was not out overnight but delayed getting to ground because of floods" and "Was still flying from the West Indies"

Im surprised that the Bangladesh captain who requested it didn't receive continuous balls to the face when he came up to bat. Or is this just a baseball thing.

Only 1 short ball an over allowed in one dayers I think, and can be given a wide if over the shoulder.

Be counter productive to keep bowling at his chin and giving runs away.

They’re cruising now. Even a wicket or two probably wouldn’t matter now. India is bleeding out.

What does T20 mean?

Rex wrote: Thu Jun 06, 2024 9:54 pm What does T20 mean?
Means they only play 20 overs (think the equivalent to an inning in baseball — each team gets to bat 20 overs or put another way each time gets to hit 120 “pitches”). Thats not the cricket terminology but it helps to put it into baseball terms sometimes when you’re new to the game.

It’s a relatively new format (about 30-40 years old?) meant to appeal to shorter attention spans of our (collective) culture. A T20 match can be played in about 3+ hours vs about 8-9 for a one-day international (50 overs) or a test match which literally takes days to finish.

Not exactly sure. I think I was on a cruise like 20 years ago and it was literally the only sporting event on the TV (ship only got what called then ESPN International) and was intrigued after watching a few matches then started following it eventually. Though to be fair I really only watch the ODI and T20 World Cup matches.

Ha! I can still replay in my head the cricket commercial that was played over and over and over and over and over again on the TV on the last cruise we went on in 2016.

An over is six pitches. But as I understand it, the teams don't switch from batting to bowling after each. One teams bats their twenty overs, or until they make ten outs, and then the other bats theirs. So it's basically one inning per side.

I think the only significance of an over is that the bowling team has to switch bowlers and ends. So one guy does his six bowls from the north end to the south wicket, then after the over another guy bowls from the south end to the north wicket.

To me, the easiest way to understand cricket is to think of it as baseball where you don't have to run out a grounder. So if you hit a grounder to second, you can just stay put, and it doesn't result in an out.

And then you take into account the other differences, like there's two bases instead of four, you can run them infinite times, it's "one strike and you're out," but you get ten outs per inning.

Pakistan is the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde team. There ain't no other team in any sport that is capable of beating the best and losing to the minnows in the same tourney.

If the US can beat Ireland they would advance to the next round (assuming Canada doesn’t beat India and Pakistan haha)

Game is Friday in Broward, but a lot of rain in the forecast for south FL, a rain out would work for the US though.

How many days off are they getting between matches? I mean this is supposed to be the home run derby of cricket. Shouldn't they be able to hammer out this tournament faster than they are going?

About three days which is standard for T20. These are still three hour matches played in grueling heat.
