The Stage House (rt 22 Mountainside version). It's cavernous, and as noted both here and on-screen last night, in Mountainside.

Tried to watch some Athletes Unlimited volleyball this past year. Just can't root for teams that are drafted week to week and cheering for a single person for a season (lax and softball have deals with Athletes Unlimited too). That being said when the World League matches show up on TV I get invested.

And yes indoor ins way more interesting. A more tactical game and way more power. The ability to jump through the roof and hammer it to some sucker who can then manage to dig it is amazing. Even the serves put the guys on their back.

Yup. What I saw was fun. Like wlu says not just power but team tactics, misdirection and dummy jumps. I get that hoops makes more money but how many washed up never were almost there guys like that are there in this country that could have tried volleyball. Men's game around here has a big no one plays problem. Youth women all over the place but total no go for guys and most American boys would have skill sets from other sports. Maybe as money goes out of ncaa fb and hoops and direct to conferences/schools and players ncaa ought to support more of this type of opportunity. Hopefully not the opposite and without cash cows even less.

I've always liked watching Olympic volleyball, but I doubt I'd watch a professional league. A friend in town is rallying interest to get a boys volleyball team in our middle and HS. Can't say I've ever seen or heard of boys playing volleyball, but it's kind of weird that they don't.

These days, it's definitely a Title IX issue usually.

Ann Arbor had a boys league for the middle schoolers back in the day. It's weird (to me) that if you have girls team, that you wouldn't put up a boys team as well. But, here in MoCo, there is girls varsity, and then they do coed... no boys league.

One thing I've always wondered is why the beach game is so stuck on 2 v. 2. Because I've played a LOT of beach volleyball and when you go 3v3 or 4v4, there's a ton more digging and tactics that go into it. 2v2 really does lack decent back and forth, which is one of the coolest parts of indoor 6v6.

Since there's no girls football, you need girls only sports to balance things out for Title IX reasons.

Just checked my alma mater and they do carry boys volleyball now.

ETA - Field Hockey is the counterbalance to football in the fall. Then you have wrestling (which is still just a boys sport around here), but then they carry girls gymnastics in the spring.

Yeah, there's several ways to square that circle, but boys volleyball is definitely a luxury in a lot of places.

Look. I don’t know the age demographics. But either they are women or are they are too young to be slobbering over. Ffs this isn’t hard.

Also, just let them be athletes!

They're women, a bit older, like average 25, not 12 year old skateboarders.

There are some really fit young ladies, though

Just watched some men's skateboarding. I didn't get the sense those were the world's best skateboarders... Am I off base on that? Anyone know what's up with skateboarding? Why is it dominated by teenagers. I feel like there are some old American skaters who could have taught those kids a few things.

The fact that the skateboarding event, at least on the "women's" side is dominated by 12-13 year olds is just bizarre. I really couldn't take that event seriously.

China is focused on everything and dominate some. Even China's push in winter sports is impressive.

It just hit me. It was like watching Tiger at the ‘97 Masters. Where you’re watching someone at their first big event and they just wipe the floor with the opposition, realizing you’re watching the best ever to do it.

Watching diving and you have to be at least 14 by DEC 31 of the year of the competition to be in the running.

Skateboarding needs to implement that rule. I get that little kids can do crazy shit... That's kind of the point. There's a dramatically reduced risk of injury doing these tricks if you're 60 pounds and your bones haven't fully formed.

Kind of ridiculous, really.
