At the end of the day, the political calculation for GOP Senators is going to be this:

Is it better to vote to keep a guy in office who is then convicted, or is it better to vote to convict and he stays in office.

For the Tom Cotton's of the world, this is a no brainer. For the Cory Gardners and Susan Collins' this becomes super problematic. You can't win in CO and ME relying on Trump's base.

If the GOP hadn't so thoroughly attached itself lamprey-style to Trump, it would be pretty easy for Gardner and Collins et al. They could vote to convict and the GOP Senators from dark red states all vote to acquit and they would be hailed as free-thinkers, but the Trump base in those states would turn on them.

That's the problem with a cult. You can't insult the cult leader or else.

This is odd - from today's Post:
Trump has said McConnell told him his call with the Ukrainian president at the center of the impeachment inquiry was “the most innocent phone call” and was “perfect.”

But when asked about it Tuesday, McConnell said, “I don’t recall any conversations with the president about that phone call.”

“We’ve not had any conversations on that subject,” McConnell told reporters at the Capitol. Asked whether Trump was lying, he demurred. “You’d have to ask him,” McConnell said.

No, he just makes up quotes singing his praises and attributes them to people, and he gets away with it because he knows they are submissive pussies who want call him out on it. Fuck it, I'm going to use this. While McConnell won't publicly admit to making a statement he undoubtedly would never make, he didn't come out on his own and contradict Trump, and when directly asked, he refused to deny it. Unfucking believable.

Man, I bet those people furious with protests that shut down streets in NYC and other cities that "prevented people from doing their jobs" are furious with the shit the Republicans are pulling at the Cooper hearing.

Desperate, much?

Getting their asses handed to them by the FACTS, so they pull a political stunt.

Hey, fucking morons, this isn't a court of law, nobodies entitled to call witnesses. Also, there are Republicans on all three committees involved (fucking morons.)

Also, it was Trey Crowdy and Mike Pompao that were more than happy to hold a gazillion closed hearings on Benghazi.

And that's just off the top of my head. That's how easy it is to put these idiots in check.

And you notice that this stunt happened the day after the Tea Party Republicans had a meeting with Trump about their Impeachment Strategy.

It is sickening how low they will go to pander to their base. Pretending to not know the law and the rules of the very institution where they work. It's buffoonery.

But of course any republican who didn't join in is "human scum."

So...just wondering...if Trump knew about this stunt before the fact (and I think I read somewhere on Twitter that he did)...could that be considered another 'Obstruction of Justice' to add to the list?

Yeah, there was speculation to that effect. Of course, it doesn't really matter much at this point how many counts of impeachment there are against him for the most part, at least not where this level of obstruction of justice is concerned. I think there will be obstruction counts against him, but whether 1 or 100 not sure that matters. And I suspect what obstruction counts do get added to the pile will not be as penny-ante as this (and much, much easier to prove).

Even less than jaywalking when you consider that those emails were confidential and not secret. Frustrating, maddening, and pure, unadulterated bullshit.

You know what's fucking hilarious about Lindsey and the House GOP calling for a vote and calling for public hearings... Oh, best believe shitbirds, that's coming in 2 weeks.

You're gonna have a stumbling, bumbling Sondland book-ended by Volker and the Ambassador that got fired, then finish up with Bill Taylor saying the exact same thing.

Unlike with a lot of these hearings, these aren't opinions, they are people bringing receipts... and Taylor and Volker have stacks and stacks of them.

So, fine, keep bitching and storming in and being petulant babies. Your check's gonna get cashed in November.

Fucking morons.

They really don't have any kind of a coherent strategy though to be fair, that's made harder by Rudy and President Dipshit constantly admitting to crimes on Twitter.

They're test-driving all of these insane defenses like "it's not illegal if the president does it" or the WSJ editorial page took "Trump is too incompetent to have knowingly committed a crime" out for a spin today, but that shit isn't gonna fly with anyone other than the hardcore Trumpers.
