Honestly, we've talked a lot on this board about this very scenario tanking his presidency.

When faced with a true crisis, he will do exactly what he's doing now, which is attempt to bullshit 350 million people.

No one wants people to die. But FFS, what else convinces these fucking morons that having a joke of a president has real world consequences.

Well ... the worst case scenario is it skews heavily towards densely populated areas, his base is kept more safe than not and come to celebrate the outcome, right?

Best case scenario is it lingers into september and nobody will be allowed to tailgate or attend SEC games just before the election?

NASCAR season is now. That might do it.

Wondering about the Triple Crown races now - any chatter about the Kentucky Derby over your way? There are some murmurings already about viability of the Preakness being held over this way bubbling up over here...

I haven't heard anything yet, but I would have to say if events over 1,000 are being urged to reschedule in other places, an event over 100k (Shoot, Oaks Friday is getting huge, too) would be a no brainer. But depends on how many cases end up in Louisville (though of course the derby brings in people from all over the country)

For most of us on the board, this is pretty good timing... Allow the mutual funds to buy a bunch of cheaper stocks.

If you are in your early 60s you are bailing like the crew of the Titanic right now.
We put our house on the market 2 weeks ago, I'm starting to worry that releasing my town as having a resident hospitalized with COVID is going to prevent people from buying. My wife was concerned that the DOW tanking would slow the market, but this could shift buyers to neighboring towns, or have people decide to wait a few months before buying. We were planning on waiting a few more weeks to go to market, but open houses were booming, and realtors at the open houses were saying the market was moving. We had a second showing to a family from Costa Rica who returned home yesterday. Not sure if we got an offer from someone outside the country if future travel restrictions become an issue.

On the plus side, with the markets tanking, it might be a good idea to put a chunk of the proceeds of the sale into the kids' college funds rather than continuing monthly payments over the next few years.

I don't know about celebrate, but if it mostly impacted big coastal cities and neighboring commuter suburbs, it won't seem as real or impactful to areas not directly effected.

OTOH, the media frenzy is bound to keep everyone scared. Looking at annual flu stats, if COVID hits numbers similar to the flu, which I'd think it has to since so many people get flu vaccines, people will flip the fuck out.

According to the CDC, the "Annual Burden of Flu" since 2010 is as follows:

Annual Deaths: 12,000- 61,000
Annual Hospitalizations: 140,000 - 810,000
Annual Illnesses: 9.3 million - 43 million.

If we hit close to these numbers, people will freak the fuck out and blame the government. Yet, these are the flu numbers and they don't register, it's just the norm.

I can't believe there's anyone in the world who could watch the fiasco that was Trump's visit to the CDC on Friday (the one where he said that scientists were telling him he understood 'this' better than anyone...and about talked about his uncle who taught at MIT) and think 'Yeah...that's the guy who should be in charge of things.

I could say the same thing about thousands of lies and idiotic statements Trump has made, yet here we are... Any criticism as skewed as Liberal lies and a hoax. You can print a Trump quote word for word, and "it's a hoax, he never said that." Back it up with video, it's still a hoax. Then his team will twist his words beyond the scope of logic to make it into something somewhat sane, and the base will grasp onto that explanation. People go to amazing lengths of mental gymnastics to find a way not to contradict their prior beliefs, and after needing to do that 1000s of times with Trump, the need grows larger.

I also think another factor for some Trump supporters is that to concede even the smallest point would be to admit that in at least a small part, they’ve been conned.

My daughter at DU has a fever and a cough. She was at the Denver airport (quick trip) fairly recently. The DU health clinic isn't taking walk ins and they have no appointments available. She's taking an Uber to a walk in clinic, but...

This is what happens when you have shitty leadership at the very top. They almost certainly don't have the means to do testing, so they're just rolling the dice? I guess?

It's fucking insane that she's not getting tested today. And they are in Finals, so there's no way for her to just bail on classes or whatever. She has to go.

We're juuuuust getting into having online courses so no infrastructure to do classes virtually.

The tests just don't exist in the US yet. Not sure if the CDC should have been on this, or private industry not moving fast enough or what, but they just don't have test kits available. Even when tests come back positive, it's taking a minimum of 4 days for the CDC to confirm the results. And that is when the State health agency submits a positive test from a hospitalized patient. It's insane.

This is ABSOLUTELY the fault of the Trump/The Feds. 100 percent. Look for the former head of the CDC that talked about what they did to prepare for the last iteration of SARS. I'm too busy to find it, but he was very critical, in a "don't shit on the position you once held" kinda way.
