That season finale of P&R would have been a perfect series finale, so don't screw up season 7 !!
I lost it when the Lil' Sebastian hologram showed up (not as much as when Andy threw the magazine in the fish tank a few episodes ago though)

Re: Temporary Television
I said the same thing to my wife, I had to ask if the show was returning. I have no doubt it was intentional. Just weird. I think they sorted it out perfectly by having her take the job, yet staying in the same building. Couldn't do the show with her in Chicago, and you kind of had to have Leslie take the position. That French Guy wrote:That season finale of P&R would have been a perfect series finale, so don't screw up season 7 !!

I also think it was genius to fast forward and spare us a year of pregnancy jokes/humor etc. That ground has been well plowed, not much fresh to add. I think pretty brilliant move.

She makes me laugh. I don't think she could handle something like, say, Anna Karenina, but for what's she's asked to do in Parks, she's great.Jerloma wrote:Does anyone else think Aubrey Plaza is a horrible actress?

Two questions. Am I the only one who thinks The Big Bang Theory is horrendously unfunny? How did this show become popular?

It made me laugh for a while, but I haven't watched the last two seasons and have no desire to catch up. I have no idea if that helps.

Re: Temporary Television
It was funny for a while, but now it's firmly entrenched in that place where old sitcoms go to decay. The place where scripts are templates, actors miraculously get younger nd the laugh track is cranked up a notch.
It's hard to think of a sitcom that stayed funny for more than 5 or 6 years. Off the top of my head, I've got 30 Rock, maybe Cheers, Seinfeld.

I'm making my way through Eastbound & Down (second season, Kenny just made his debut for the Charros). I know some of you must of watched it, and I feel like you assbloods didn't talk it up enough during its run. And yeah, that includes you, whoever it was who used to have a Kenny Powers avatar.
Or maybe I'm just a sucker for Danny McBride. I laughed at Your Highness for fucks sake. Sober!

I started watching it on my parents' HBOGO account, which I had hijacked for Game of Thrones, and then the HBO/Prime thing happened. Amazon is much easier for me to stream through the TV, so yay.wlu_lax6 wrote:Just finished season 4 via Amazon Prime. I Enjoyed it.

Re: Temporary Television
I watched How I Met Your Mother through the last episode, so I'm very not attached to only watching "cool" television, and I just don't get it. Do you have to be semi-sciencey or have hung out with that type to find it funny? The laugh-track-less version that floated around a few years ago was exactly how I feel watching the show. My mom thinks I'm an idiot.tennbengal wrote:I like it. I still like it. I know it is cool to say how unfunny it is, but I like it. No apologies.
Re: Temporary Television
I think it's a good show to put on when you're in bed but not tired enough to fall right asleep but don't want to watch anything that's going to keep you awake or anything that you care if you miss any of it.

I have to say, I felt the same way about How I Met Your Mother. I tried to get into it through reruns, and I thought it just wasn't funny. Seemed like a poor imitation of Friends.AB_skin_test wrote:I gave it a try with some reruns. I hate Jim Parsons's character.

Its not a show I'd try to sell anyone on. I think it hit me slash my demographic because, in real time, they were all basically the same age doing more or less the same things. If the series started today, I probably would never get into it.

Re: Temporary Television
Don't think so, for my part anyway, for sure. Its a cast that as it has grown has hit, for me, that sitcom sweetspot where the actors seem to have a genuine rapport and the writers have a good feel for their characters, and with the years I have watched the show, fall into the inside humor a little quicker.mister d wrote:I watched How I Met Your Mother through the last episode, so I'm very not attached to only watching "cool" television, and I just don't get it. Re: Temporary Television
Word. If I hadn't watched HIMYM from the beginning, or if I was a bit older, I don't think I would have enjoyed it. The show has more inside jokes and running gags than the Swamp. So much so, I'm sure I missed more than half of them. On the few instances when someone linked an article about an episode, I learned that I didn't watch nearly as closely as I should have. Then again, my Mom started watching several seasons in and loved the show.mister d wrote:Its not a show I'd try to sell anyone on. I tried watching Big Bang Theory when it first came on. My wife pulled the plug half way into the first episode. Knowing how bad pilots of great shows can be, I tried watching a couple more times, and just didn't find any of it funny. I was never into SciFi or comic books or anything of that ilk, so maybe I just don't appreciate references or a similar type of humor. I have tried watching periodically when the syndicated episodes come on, I just don't find it funny. I know it is tremendously popular though, so I must be missing something. I don't enjoy any of the traditional canned sitcoms with the traditional timing and format. The only comedies I watch are Modern Family and Parks and Rec. Oh, and I occasionally watch Brooklyn 99 on Hulu. I know that show is the pinnacle of lowbrow, but it cracks me up and is quirky enough to keep me interested. Plus Andre Braugher is awesome in it.

If there's ever been a show that benefitted more from taking 4 years off and then airing 12 new episodes that are pretty much xeroxed from any of their past seasons except the hot blonde is now a believably awesome peer instead of a wildlife-dodging au pair idiot than 24, I haven't seen it.

Les Revenants a French show - "The Returned" - is among the best shows I have ever seen. Intense, creepy and really intelligent. Just finished episode 6 of its first season (8 episodes) and it creeped the hell out of me.
Highly recommended.

Orphan Black is fascinating; getting ready to finish season one this afternoon. Tatiana Maslany is great in the various clone roles - how she didn't win the Emmy (or more likely the Golden Globe she was nominated for) for best actress is beyond me.

I'm with AB. Season 1, or maybe only the first half of Season 1, was just about perfection. The pilot was the funniest pilot I've ever watched. Then it looked like a show that didn't plan on getting extended and started falling back on "look he's doing that thing he sometimes does ha ha" jokes.
Re: Temporary Television
Danny McBride could read that and I would laugh. Plus my wife is into the show now and I'd rather watch it with her than anything on HGTV.mister d wrote:I'm with AB. We've been binge watching the entire Breaking Bad series that I got for Christmas. Man, the hype was well deserved.
