That’s a pretty awful cautionary tale about treating mental illness as a criminal issue rather than a health issue.

That's such a huge part of what's so fucked up about this country, IMO. Our society should not look at a case like that and almost always go to imprisonment as the answer.

Similarly, Californians have been angering residents of other western states for years! We sell our expensive homes and relocate to cheaper nearby states and outbid the locals to buy their houses for cash.

And, a story I'll always remember. I moved to Arlington, Texas in the 80s. I was talking to my new neighbor there about the day he moved to Texas from Rochester, New York. He said he pulled into a gas station in Arlington, excited about starting his new life in a new state. Then, some redneck in a pickup truck drove past slowly, noted his license plate and yelled at him, "Go back to New York, you fucking Yankee puke!"
