Unspecified Davis could flat-out ball.

Apropos of nothing, I went out on a date with Walter Davis's niece.

Ryan, thanks so much for doing this again this year. Huge fun, much appreciated.
I won it on the good fortune of there being a question about Creedence. Any band after that time and I would have struggled to just come up with the most popular correct answer. Creedence was the American Beatles, and Fogerty a combo Lennon/McCartney/Harrison. I played every CCR album until the grooves wore off.

Violating my usual rule of Swampcrash success, I spent some time on this question and narrowed down the absolutely killer answers to Sweet Hitchhiker and Lodi. Despite myself playing an imassioned version of Lodi, one of the great tunes ever, I went with the other one. The last cut on the last Creedence album, made as they were imploding into the worst management/contract/musician personality conflict abyss in music history.

From the answers here, apparently the brilliantly Lodi was not a hit. It's poetically universal -- every failed musician has lived this song. Lodi not being a hit is like if In My Life was viewed as dull or Good Vibrations wasn't considered catchy enough. But of course there's no accounting for (the public's lack of) taste.

That was the single most creative answer to any question, anywhere.

The only competition you have in my experience was when I was playing "Apples to Apples" with the family. The category that had just come up was "Insensitive." You play a card from those in your hand that you think is the best fit with this concept. My daughter played "Helen Keller." She was 9 years old. That was the moment that I knew she'd turn out all right.

Davis played his college ball at the University of Detroit. I'll never forget the crowd chanting "U - D, U - D." They did this even when he wasn't playing much as a freshman. But they saw the greatness. It was a moving tribute to the man.

Great call on Lodi. Thought about it but went Green River. Great games all around. Good Luck to you and Wlu.
