I ran into TennBengal today and he looks great. He's lost 25 lbs and it shows. That vegan diet thing is working really well for him.

Also, it really seems like in the photo that her shins are aren't vertical enough. It simply doesn't look like her weight is on her heels.
I just wish they'd have given before, during, and after pics to not give the wrong impression. People will think "Damn, I only gotta do that a bunch of times and my ass will get firm? Awesome!"
I just assumed it was a picture halfway down. I'm a squat is half down kind of thinker.

He and his wife are both named Aaron? That's weird.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

This video is an excellent super duper slo mo of Chad Vaughn doing a 315 lb clean and jerk. Notice how after he pops the bar off of his thighs, he gets under that bastard with a quickness.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
After some (rather) major problems in late November, involving congestive heart problems, I have been in the weight-loss mode. I am gradually changing my eating lifestyle.
I have lost 30 pounds since then. However, for me, that is like taking a 5-gallon bucket to a small pond, and filling it. Yes, the bucket is full, and there is a good amount of water, but the pond has not appreciably changed size.
Just like a steer, all I can do is try.

FAT BET UPDATED
Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Did the customary Memorial Day "Murph" today. Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy's Wiki page.
For time:
Run 1 mile
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 air squats
Run 1 mile
It took me over an hour. I finished dead last amongst everyone (including people wearing flack vest with body armor plates in them.) My feelings hurt more than my body.
But...I did finally get a bar muscle up today. FINALLY. That was a proud moment.

They weren't strict. They were of the kipping variety. 10 at a time 10 times. It still counts and they still get the job done.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
I started lifting these round concrete balls. Atlas stones, they call 'em. Guy at the gym who is an instructor and power lifter was throwing one of these, like 180 pounds, up on his shoulder. I got into a conversation with him, and then he started teaching me the form. On a 50 lb rock. Very interesting soreness pattern in odd parts of my limbs the next morning. Kinda interesting change of pace.
Here is a clip, chosen because it is short. There are tons of youtubes.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Well, I'm not in Johnnie's league, but we joined a gym in late April, and I've been working out pretty religiously since then. I feel stronger, pants fit better, body is getting more toned, wife says nice things... But here's the damned thing - I haven't lost any weight to speak of. I haven't really changed my eating habits much, but I should be burning lots more calories.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
After all these years, attempts, and false starts, I've maintained regular gym attendance for a solid month (May). As well, a very solid, healthy diet (one dessert, in a luxury box in The Bronx, and one pint of ice cream, for the whole month). Fish, greens, salads, occasional pork or steak, nuts and fresh fruit for snacks.
Hopefully the habit sticks. I only dropped six pounds in the month, but solidly in the correct direction. I will dominate any new fatbet. Or I'll at least talk a bunch of mess.

Whatever. You can only say that because Diesel Donnie isn't around to drop 30 pounds by blinking fast for a couple minutes.

Re: OFFICIAL Eat Right & Get Fit Challenge
Honestly, I've stopped looking at the scale. I started doing what I was doing at around 190 lbs. I stayed around that weight with the usual water fluctuation stuff for the entire 10 months I was doing Crossfit in Korea. Maybe I lost 1 or 2 pounds, but nothing substantial. But I know for a fact I dropped fat and built muscle. I lost 4 inches around my waist. I gained a six pack and I was able to lift heavy weight that I thought was impossible for the first time ever.sancarlos wrote:Well, I'm not in Johnnie's league, but we joined a gym in late April, and I've been working out pretty religiously since then. I think, like me, it all comes back to diet. Plateaus will happen. I haven't been able to have a solid diet. (chow hall & food options in base in Korea and now vacation until Germany)
Maybe try to really focus on that? I started reading about The Zone diet. It has been around for a long time. Amazon Kindle has the book by Barry Sears. I'm going to jump into that huge once i get to Germany.
Oh, and tonight at a Crossfit box I intend to do a drop in at, the workout is 100 burpee pull ups for time. Weeeeeee!

If you're stronger and your pants fit better, who cares how many lbs you lost or didn't lose? You probs just replaced gay, offensive fat with hot sexy muscles. Tweet an apology at Jason Collins and you'll feel better.

To respond to Johnnie and Bronto. The fat bet is less about where we end up weightwise, and more about the constant reporting. I run alone, and workout alone. Fatbet requires that I am accountable.

i've used the myfitness pal app for the last 13 months and dropped 37 pounds. you have to be brutally honest with your caloric intake and workouts, but it's been a big help.govmentchedda wrote:Ready to start a new one?testy boxcar wrote:i won fatbet and i didn't even get a lousy t-shirt

Down to 182, from starting at 221 in late January. Vegan + running +swimming and some cycling/spinning. Hoping to make it into the 160s. Loss has really slowed down, will be slow going from here, trying to guard against getting discouraged.
ETA: Why 160s? Because that is top end of "normal" range for my height under BMI guidelines, and I want to get there (haven't seen that since college). But I do feel much better where I currently am compared to 221 (duh).

I'm 5'7". If I weighed 160, I'd look emaciated. 175 is the lowest weight I can even view myself being.
