They had a barn-burner in Ljubljana yesterday. Visiting Trencin from Slovakia scored 4 unanswered goals in the first 32 minutes. Then Olimpic Ljubljana scored 3 of their own to finish down 4-3. Somehow I don't see Ljubljana getting 4 away goals in the return leg.

If Trencin sounds familiar, it is a small city of 50,000 in Slovakia that has had the Stanley Cup visit six times in the past eight years. Marian Hossa played for Trencin, and Zdeno Chara, Tomas Kopecky, and Marian Gaborik all grew up there or nearby. Michal Handzus grew up less than two hours away.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I bet the women in Ljubljana are really pretty.

Our next First Lady is from near there. (Of course, all of Slovenia is near there. And near any other part of Slovenia.)

Yeah, Melania.

I know nothing of Slovenia, but I have a fond memory of a Playboy issue of my youth that featured girls of Yugoslavia and they were pretty awesome. The only Slovenian I am familiar with does not look like he comes from attractive genes:

Unfortunately my ranking on the looks scale is more like Kopitar's than Melania's.

Any idea why the second leg of the Copenhagen-Astra Giurgiu is not showing up on the UEFA website? We will be in Copenhagen August 2-5, and it would be great if the match was going on then.

I actually think there will be some measures taken this year. A few yellows early in the season and we may see a lot less of the storming and yelling at referees.

And fuck Chelsea. Just because.

What a clusterfuck. Hull wins promotion to Premiership, but doesn't sign anybody, manager quits in disgust right before season starts... Just relegate them for 2017 now.

You know, if that was an Italian team, red flags would be flying. That may be the worst thing I have ever seen.

Zlatan gonna zlatan.

I watched most of that game, and while it's not the first game I've seen him play, you notice more when he's on your team. And so many times it looks like he is totally disinterested, but then you come to realize he's just where he needs to be. Messi does that a lot, too. I think certain players just see the game differently. Slower, I guess.

I mean, I know there is a tire fire coming with Mourinho at some point, but I am really looking forward to this season.

Is there an explanation beyond "that's how its always been done" for why anyone can take the PK versus the guy fouled or the last touch? Is it to make PKs as punitive/automatic as possible?

Just got an e-mail from David Moyes. This is the first paragraph. At least we know what he was doing b/w the ManU and Sunderland jobs.

I am Mr. David Moyes, Head Officer-in-Charge, Administrative Service Inspection Unit United Nations Inspection Agency in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Atlanta, Georgia. During our investigation, I discovered an abandoned shipment through a Diplomat from United Kingdom which was transferred from JF Kennedy Airport to our facility here in Atlanta, and when scanned it revealed an undisclosed sum of money in 2 Metal Trunk Boxes weighing approximately 110kg each.
This has to be real, right?
