I just saw that one too. That was fucking atrocious. Might be as bad a call as I have seen, actually. Cleveland completely got boned.

Once you use replay it has to be black and white. Those are the dangers of using replay and why people are against it.Joe K wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 7:38 am I think that sports should just go ahead and admit that they’re using a de novo standard of review for video replay. Because while I do think Hyde was down short of the first down the call on the field wasn’t egregiously wrong. Also, I don’t see anything wrong with officially doing away with the higher standard to overturn. There’s just no way that an official can see a play live as accurately as it can be seen with slo-mo reviews from multiple angles.
Guy lifting his foot a millimetre off the base
A ball in tennis a millimetre wide
The keeper pulling the ball into his stomach across the line
These are all impossible for the human eye to detect but must be called using replay.

Hue Jackson has won 3 of his last 41 games as an NFL head coach.

Re: NFL 2018 Week 4
It’s in the eye of the beholder whether that’s a danger or benefit of replay. I think Hyde was down short of the line and that, in that sense, the overrule was “correct.” But I’m also sure that there are dozens of spots in every game that are “off” by at least as much as the on-field refs’ initial spot.degenerasian wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 9:26 amOnce you use replay it has to be black and white. Joe Flacco and the Ravens Defense looked solid last night. Next week they get their 1st round pick and their #1 CB back. There may have been a time in my Swamphood that I'd have been on here busting all the Stillers fans balls about last night's game. Not anymore, I'm a kindler, gentler, heavier bfj.

Really? I don't see how you can allow replay to overturn a call unless it's clear. If you don't have a good angle, or can't tell for sure, you have to stick with the call on the field, it's the only way that makes sense.Joe K wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 7:38 am I think that sports should just go ahead and admit that they’re using a de novo standard of review for video replay. That's been the supposed story since they instituted replay, and that's what makes that call in the Browns game so shocking. The Sybian wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 12:23 pmReally? That presumes that the official who made the call on the field actually had a good angle or could tell for sure. In most cases, particularly for something like a spot, you’re going to be able to see the play a lot better on video review. I agree that the Browns got a harsh result based on how the rule is supposedly enforced. I just don’t buy that an official spotting the ball at full speed, while presumably watching for other things, is more reliable than a video review. The Sybian wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 12:23 pmReally? Sure, and when the video replay gives reason to change it, change it. I'm just saying if the replay is inconclusive, you shouldn't change the call.Joe K wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 12:40 pmThat presumes that the official who made the call on the field actually had a good angle or could tell for sure. And yet two of your three examples use advanced technology that removes the human component and which is specifically and easily applicable to football and the NFL refuses to implement it.degenerasian wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 9:26 amOnce you use replay it has to be black and white. He is amazing but Denver was stupid to abandon the run in the 4th.

His arm and ability to extend plays and still throw bullets - man. I heard the Favre comparisons on the broadcast last night, but I was also put in mind of young Elway.
Also, how far would it have to be down and distance for me to feel like Mahomes couldn’t convert? Because 2nd and 30 felt really doable and he made it look easy. Maybe 2nd and 50 would feel like too much to ask? Dunno. But for those saying wait until he has adversity, that box is checked. Down 10 in Denver with the crowd noise and the rest of it, and two fourth quarter TD drives making the plays he made, in a game where he wasn’t sharp early and still didn’t throw a pick, i consider that test passed.
My god he’s good. I think the stat was 191 yards thrown while out of the pocket and on the move. 13 of 16 in fourth quarter for 153 yards. Just, yikes.

Yeah, that Mahomes kid just might make it.

That's the comparison. And it is shocking to compare a kid after his 5th start to one of the top 5 all time QBs, but that's how freakishly good Mahomes looks.tennbengal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 5:17 amHis arm and ability to extend plays and still throw bullets - man. Re: NFL 2018 Week 4
I hate the circular graphic NBC uses to show the skill position players on the field based on just the jersey number and the position of the player (during pre-snap when using the cable camera positioned behind the offense). It actually becomes even worse when a player goes in motion and his numbers moves around the circle as he passes every other skill position player.
