Figure her biggest risk in that event is getting DQ'd for getting out of the pool, crossing lanes, or some other technical violation while waiting for everyone else to finish. Or a shark attack..

Her run in the 1500 is just nuts. Back in Rio she looked like Secretariat.

British Cycling confirmed that, following medical advice, Archibald would be unable to compete in next month’s Olympics.
Um. This woman broke her leg in two places, dislocated her ankle and shredded the ligaments in said ankle.

Ya fucking think? What a weird thing to put out like that.

So a 16 year old just set the u-18 world record and high school record for the 400 at the track and field trials. He goes to a fancy local private school near me.

Did it again yesterday, and he competes in the final tonight.

And nothing about the Paris poop protest yesterday?

I saw an article a few days ago that the river was not yet at levels clean enough to let folks swim.

Which at the same time the Washington Post had an article that the Potomac has been at safe levels for a few years but they are not ready to let folks swim in yet. The Potomac levels seem to get bad every year around the variety of triathlons they want to run (which become duathlons).

Finished 6th, which (I think) qualifies you for the relay team. He would run in the heat. That’s amazing and, given our relay history, frightening!

Michelle Rohl, a 58 year-old grandmother qualified for Paris in race walking. She is going to her 4th Olympics (20th in 1992, 14th in 1996, 17th in 2000). She trains 45 miles each week at an 8:00/mile pace.

The daughter of a woman I went to High School with won the shotput trial and made the Olympic team.

Image
A throw of 20.49 meters (67 feet, 2 3/4 inches) in the first round of the women’s world outdoors shot put competition held up through all six rounds making Los Alamos High School alumna Chase Ealey the first American woman to win that event. She is now headed to compete the 2024 Olympics in Paris next month.
She won the World's outdoor championship in 2022 and 2023, so she's gotta be one of the favorites in Paris.

Day 10 (the final day) of the Track and Field trials was a great watch. Peacock has the part that was aired on TV available, search "Olympic Trials: T&F Day 10".

Includes finals in the men's 5k & 800m, men's and women's 400m hurdles, women's 1500, women's 100m hurdles, women's pole vault and more. Highly recommend this hour.

I watched her over the weekend. She was fucking launching it.

I enjoy T&F, especially during the Worlds and Olympics. And I really enjoy watching shot, discus, and (of course) pole vault. Just really intricate body kinematics.

I'm as big a Lebron stan as anyone, but I think letting an athlete for whom the Olympics is the grandest stage be the flag bearer would have been a better move.

At least he didn't demand Bronny got to do it.

But in all seriousness, I think this is done by athlete vote and my understanding is he is a big leader on the team and drives participation for the national team.

there are two -- a woman and a man with the woman announced tomorrow. so it feels a safe bet that the pick will be one of them.

Might depend on the schedule too. I understand that swimmers will skip the ceremonies if they are competing the next morning (which I think Ledecky is). Then again, this year’s ceremony is on the Seine, so maybe it could double as practice.

I was just kidding of course but I know there have been concerns about pollution in the river. I assume the IOC/POC has some kind of contingency if it can’t be used for whatever reason.

Was browsing at the field for the olympics golf. I think it would be neat if there were say 3 rounds of stroke play, then the top 4 (playoff holes would determine seeding in event of ties) play two matches each for medals. Or maybe even two bronzes and just one title fight.
