If this Springsteen story is true, you're going to see a lot of people who fully backed them against Floyd, Brown, Garner, etc, etc suddenly find the ability to assess individual situations.

Uh, when Bronto says BACK THE BLUE I think it’s because he’s a Royals fan.

Well, I didn't see anything about Mickey Callaway anywhere with a cursory search, so this is as good a place as any.

Pretty damning coming from him.

There's another tweet saying he doesn't really have a relationship with his dad because of shit like this, so it seems to be "a thing".

Speaking of dads, (and clearly this is just a sideshow to the real story but it did come to mind while reading the Athletic article), the reporting makes clear that Cleveland's GM knew about Calloway, and his father is the big boss at WFAN in NYC. Without a commute I almost never listen anymore, but I assume the station must have killed the Mets and Calloway last month. I wonder how delicately they'll dance around this new reporting.
The couple of articles from yesterday that I found on the WFAN website (one about the new reporting in general and one about Francona's son) had no references to GM Chernoff.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Jackie Bradley Jr. leaving the Sox to the Brewers. Always waited for him to become a better hitter but it sucks to lose such a great defensive player. So much for the next Rice, Lynn, and Evans.

Whenever people talk about records that won't be broken, Rickey's career SB record is gonna stand forever short of some kind of massive freak who is a combination of Mike Trout and Usain Bolt.

I might take the other side on this. If power pitchers continue to dominate, maybe running on them will be the counter. A dude like Trea Turner is both really good and could probably steal 100 if given the chance.

The more curious story on the backside of that card is that of Miguel Diloné.
From 1901 through 1979, there had only been 10 seasons in history where a player had recorded at least 180 hits, batted at least .340 and stolen 60-or-more bases. More than a half of those seasons – six – belonged to Ty Cobb, and only Eddie Collins and Cobb had done it more than once.
But seemingly out of nowhere, Diloné produced those numbers in his first season as a regular player.
It has not been done since.

(The Cubs sold him to Cleveland at the start of that season, and I watched bitterly as he ran up those numbers.)
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Sports are so fascinating. I knew the name, but I didn’t appreciate his brush with significance.
