Disastrous day for the Texans. The loss was understandable but losing another WR, your #3 pick, and, oh, CJ Stroud to injuries just fucking stings.

CBS just did a bit on the 9/11 story with Nantz and Romo talking about McDermott’s character and I don’t think anyone ever thought he commiserated with the terrorists it was just funny that he coachbrained himself into giving that speech.

the freakout about this Chiefs team is both stupid and understandable given how they lose games

but man, you'd think they were 5-8 in this city and not 8-5 with one above .500 team remaining on the schedule

Not a huge fan of the “allow the opposition to regularly get big chunks of yardage” defense that my team has been running these last few weeks.

Mahomes and Reid calling out the refs after Toney is very, very clearly in the neutral zone and offside is so weird and uncharacteristic. Like....take the L, man. It was the right call.

Receivers lining up like that gets ignored at least half the time. That said, you gotta know where you're lining up relative to where the ball is, son.

No? He was WAY offsides - it was clear - no way that happens “gets ignored at least half the time”. His body and head were covering up the call. It wasn’t close.

His foot was in front of the ball. People make the argument that it happens all the time, like holding. But this was a case that it was so blatant that it had to have been called, like if Trent Williams picked up Aaron Donald on a play, then that’s egregious holding. This is the same.

A receiver even has the ability to check with the side judge to see if he’s good. That’s on Toney for being a dipshit.

Forget who SNF had on, Terry McAulay?, but he said this has been a brand new "point of emphasis" this season. There was one offensive offsides call in 2021, a handful last season, and I think he said they're up to over 10 already this season. So the Chefs should have been aware this is a thing, but also correct that it's (almost) never been called before this season.

and then it was called during SNF! (on a guard alas)

I do want to see the all-22 -- what's odd is someone who worked the game for CBS tweeted that Toney checked with the official on the side. and then the tweet got deleted after it took off. obviously doesn't absolve Toney of anything, but also could explain some of the frustration that boiled over *if* he in fact checked and there was some/no acknowledgment from the side judge

I don't believe for a second he really asked, or, if he did, that it was give the the a-ok. Here's the shot - how are Mahomes and Reid really crying over this. Bad look from them.

The ball is between the 49 and the 50. Toney is literally with one of his feet on the 49. It's not even close to a tough call. This isn't a hand drifting over. He's no question about it offsides. You know who is properly onsides? The Chiefs receiver at the top of the formation. Maybe Toney should have done that.

And I type all of that as someone who wanted Buffalo to lose that game.

But the reaction from Mahomes, Reid and others is beyond bizarre. Mahomes said the call was "an embarrassment to the NFL". What the actual fuck, man.

it was Reid who said it was "a bit embarrassing."

I agree that it's been over the top. but they also kept their mouths shut after last week's pass interference that wasn't.

It’s not uncharacteristic of teams who typically always get the calls (last two weeks aside) to freak out when calls actually go against them. It’s like a bully who constantly gets away with their shit, only to become the biggest whiniest bitch (Mahomes) you have ever seen when actually called on it.

Sorry. Reid. That's even worse.

Chief 100% benefited in the Super Bowl from a crucial judgment call. Just shut the fuck up, to all of them. Especially when the play at question isn't even a fucking judgment call. He was ACTUALLY offsides.

Didn’t say he wasn’t, nor did I say it wasn’t a good call. Just mentioning that call gets ignored (a lot) for as long as I’ve ever watched football. If folks want to say there’s a new emphasis on refs actually following the rulebook? Fine. But I know what I saw.

Mahomes & Reid blowing up like that is gamesmanship.

It’s been called 13 times this year against 11 teams. 10 of those teams did not make asses of themselves after the game.
