It only took me eight batters this season for me audibly yell “just let the damn ball graze your jersey!” Most likely a PR.

Finally working on mobile. Prior to it working, I had logged out and back in and even went so far as to deleting the app and reinstalling it. And restarted my phone. Poor form on the part of Netfli-MLB.mister d wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 3:48 pmSomeone on bluesky said logging out and back in works.cerranoredux wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 3:22 pm Looks like MLB.tv is out across the board. Fun with projections: the Phillies right now are on pace to strike out 3,500 times this season. (3,499.7 to be exact).

Austin Riley goes yard 162x
Re: MLB 2025
If I had posted in the second inning, it'd be Astros rookie Cam Smith having as many hits as pitches seen.

Spencer Torkelson, who was not a lock to make the roster at the start of the season, has a 5.000 OPS.L-Jam3 wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 4:13 pmFun with projections: the Phillies right now are on pace to strike out 3,500 times this season. (3,499.7 to be exact).

Well I guess there’s a lot of people that haven’t the foggiest what a home run is so I guess I can imagine it. Siri. Delete.

She didn’t want to go to the game today which is good because that bottom of the 1st would have been 40-something thousand people cheering and one 10 year old crying.mister d wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 9:16 amMy youngest (who wears #65 for Nestor Cortes and his mustache) walked it off in the bottom of the 6th last night to give your heroes their first win of the season in A-level 8U fall ball. Up 1-0 going into the top of the 6th, down 2-1 going into the bottom and strung together five straight hits for the win. Suck it, Cranford.

The pen was good innings 6-8 still don’t know what the actual fuck Francona was thinking in pushing the Ian Gibault button for the 9th. Lunacy.

Looks like Judge has a shot at the cycle of home runs
Edit: I guess it’s the cycle of home runs. The grand slam is one of the ones he already has

Grisham just did the most selfish thing of all time scoring on that hit
Re: MLB 2025
What's the deal with the torpedo bat? You can just customize bats for dudes that get jammed up and it's completely legal and nobody has ever tried doing it before?

Re: MLB 2025
More or less. Bats didn’t have to be bat shaped but MLB is so uncreative it took years to consider a change. I only learned about the ax-handles a month or two ago (I think I would have loved them) and it’s already last wave shit.
Re: MLB 2025
It’s the never tried before part that I am finding hard to believe. Billy Beane is an idiot if he spent all that money on Hatteberg instead of giving it to some nerd to make a better bat.
It’s also funny when you think of how much money has gone into making better golf clubs for like 60 years now. I guess the difference is the incentive for the manufacturer. Old guys with disposable income aren’t out there buying baseball bats.

Little league dads been funding this research since metal bats were allowed.

Yeah if you haven't peeked inside the Youth Baseball Machine you'd think the market is small. It is not. Every payer now has multiple bats and they get new ones every year because they go "dead". Shit, I think half mt LL ABs were with a steel club.HaulCitgo wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 7:04 am Little league dads been funding this research since metal bats were allowed.

Re: MLB 2025
The shittiest part is they really do go dead and you can both see and hear it. I want to say someone said its because of microfractures or some shit I don't understand beyond the literal level.
The little I've read says the Yankees aren't at all alone in experimenting, they're just the first to get players to buy in. Kinda interesting that Bellinger, who said the Cubs messed around with them but not in games, said he likes the feel of more of the weight down by his hands which seems counter-intuitive. Over the winter, about a half-dozen adults were passing around a kid's new bat for that reason, it felt like the weight was disproportionately near the handle. I assume this means if Colette goes off this season, we know whats next.

Things that have drastically changed since we were kids in baseballA_B wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 7:23 amYeah if you haven't peeked inside the Youth Baseball Machine you'd think the market is small. 1.) Stretched out stirrups that we handed out season after season
2.) A bag of dented bats the coach got
3.) 4 batting helmets shared among the team (just like gluten, lice were not a thing back then).
4.) Sliding gloves...
5.) Do LLers wear body armor (arm guards and shin guards)?
Re: MLB 2025
If I had a kid who hit right up on the plate or constantly fouled the ball at their feet, I'd be all-in on elbow or shin protection. And whoever figures out a comfortable one-piece bottom-hand batting glove + wrist-guard will make a ton of money.
Re: MLB 2025
Good intro to the torpedo bats but one thing left out is that the earliest in-game adopter, Stanton, is currently out with an extremely weird (even for him) dual-injury to his elbows. Might be zero connection, but possible there's something there either in terms of being able to swing even harder or having add'l stress with more of the weight closer to his hands.

Re: MLB 2025
I remember about three bats a fungo and a rounded metal weapon in the bat bag. Also a 35 that no one could use. Someones dad somewhere made their kid go to the plate with that thing. I also remember March inside fastballs with those things was quit baseball level sting

Yeah, that's one thing that hasn't gone away. Composites are better in the sweet spot but they still rattle the shit out of your hands off the end or the below the joint.

After some deep deep soul searching, I will allow the use of these bats.

Re: MLB 2025
I think they're fine or good unless we see exit velos jump to the point where a pitcher is going to die. Although somehow that hasn't happened in D1 so maybe its not a deal? I don't know.

Re: MLB 2025
It's literally within the rules and makes intuitive sense. Won't be something every player is comfortable with I am sure, but getting the fat part of the bat to the portion that makes the most consistent contact seems obvious in hindsight.mister d wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:03 am I think they're fine or good unless we see exit velos jump to the point where a pitcher is going to die.
