It was an excellent question (and excellent start for the GPGST). I wouldn't have got it if I had the 30 for 30 doc playing in front of me.

That's exactly where it came from. They noted that fact in the documentary, which was replayed on Friday.

Sorry West Coast trivia fans. EST 4eva

Day two's question, sort of piggybacking off of the Googling done verifying the first:

Who was the only NFL hall of famer to be selected in the supplemental draft?

Josh Gordon intends to be the second!

But I don't really have a good answer for the first.

I forgot to say "not future Josh Gordon". He'll be number 2 if he keeps his head on straight.

I was asked this on FB as a follow up yesterday and couldn't come up with the answer. Had no idea the answer was taken in the supplemental.

Nope. The USFL supplemental drafts don't count. This player did not play in the USFL. Thanks, Trump.

Damn! I recently heard him say this on Mike and Mike while talking about the adjustment to playing WR in the NFL. Never would have come up with it, though.

I recalled his hardship waiver once the answer was released.

Alright, gotta think of a Q for today. Let's get that first gold star out.

Who was the first sprinter to officially break the 10 second barrier?

Oddly enough, he has the third highest single season yardage total of the supplemental picks behind Gordon and Rob Moore.

For the first year after they were drafted, or during their careers?

I'll guess Carl Lewis, though that would be too easy of an answer for this quiz.

SL, you should give out a "limp dick" star for half-assed, apologetic "I know I'm not right, but..." type guesses.

Oh, hey, good morning Syb!

During their careers, and no, not Carl Lewis.

Nope. Between Lewis and Owens.

Shows you just how athletes and training have evolved. If you took Lewis in his prime and dropped him into the modern NCAA championship 100m race, he'd get absolutely smoked.

I'll wait for Rush's/Scottie's/other West Coasters' guesses and then I'll shut it down.

When I was a kid in those years, track and field was still a big deal in this country for general sports fans. My mom would've gotten this one.

I had thought that it was, but not quite. I'll just end it for the week.

It was Jim Hines in 1968. Looking it up, he had actually ran sub-10 earlier in that year, so he didn't break 10 for the first time in Mexico City.

But your answer is JIM HINES.

Back next week to hoard more of these golden stars.

It was in Modesto, Ca, right? I remember the newspaper headlines the next day, I was about 11 or 12.

I could've at least come up with Bob Hays (wind-aided, hand-timed) five years or so earlier.

MONDAY THE TODAYTH OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH

This rap/R&B producer is the son of James Alexander, a member of Otis Redding's Bar-Kays band. He was named after Phalon Jones, a bandmate killed along with Redding in a 1967 plane crash.
