I think it was mentioned before, but it's going to be interesting if it ever comes out who was shorting what and when.

That for sure but I also think the activities of our new breed of oligarch may be suspicious.

Did we discuss this? Classic insider trading. Good thing the Supreme Court says he is immune from prosecution.

My company’s stock is down 30% this week. I refuse to look at my retirement accounts and kids 529s. Probably won’t make back the losses from the 529s, definitely not for my son, although they put it into less volatile investments in the final years, so maybe it isn’t too bad?

Yeah, 529s are typically age-based portfolios so if he is close to college, it should be allocated pretty conservatively.

Son is a freshman in college, daughter 2 years out. My wife wanted to dump a bunch in last year, because for her it’s less painful than writing a check every semester, as she feels like the money is gone, but knowing we’ll have to pay two bills was stressing her out. Whatever makes her less stressed…

Alright, gun to your head, what do you honestly think are the odds that the Dow is over 40 a year from now?

Nope. I don’t see it. Inflation and chaos coming, imho.

40% that it’s over 40K. Investors don’t like unpredictability and chaos.

Wasn’t going to look, but one of my retirement accounts quarterly statements came in. Down 15% in one week. Somehow lost 1% today. We have a balanced portfolio account. Went up 5% after 6:00pm. Fucking crazy.

I'm really surprised how resilient the stock market has been over the past month or so. Despite the tariffs coming in, the ports being empty, the prospect of empty shelves in the not-distant future, ongoing inflation, and Trump's continued efforts to destroy this country, the stock market seems to be predicting things won't be bad at all.

Maybe I'm just a nervous nelly. But, I have some money invested in index ETF/mutual funds that basically mirror the S&P 500. So, today I decided to buy put options to hedge my downside risk. Given my current pessimism, it seems like the thing for me to do.
