Then I read the online comments, and it was universally celebrated. 'At least that guy cares,' etc. Yeah, fighting isn't leaving the sport any time soon.
Was the aggressor and clearly maintained the upper hand the entire time. I was shocked when I saw who it was; Lindgren isn't a fighter (more of a compulsive bleeder), but he's not a guy you'd particularly want to fight either?

Also, this doesn't look like the face of a killer:

I'd say I'm like 80/20 against fighting. I do play a bit and the aggression builds regardless and we don't check in our league, so I can see how the outlet is useful.

There's no one word answer on it, but also anyone who feels compelled to post pro-punch in the face stuff without offering any nuance is the same jackwagon that bangs on the glass and yells "shoooooot itttttt" on the powerplay. They like it for the same reason they like boxing. They see themselves being that tough guy and it's fun to watch someone else do it when you know deep down you're a pussy and would never been tough enough to scrap like that.

That's not the most flattering photo, but I think Cozens looks a lot like Elliot Page.

'Compulsive bleeder' is a great description. Reminds me of Chuck Wepner, The Bayonne Bleeder.

I don't want to say announcers and fans laugh at Lindgren for bleeding, but its very much an "oh he's at it again" situation.

BSF, I'm where you are on fighting. I don't like most fights, but I like the threat of "legal" retribution to keep certain shitheads closer to in-line than they might otherwise be. Hockey is so fast and inherently dangerous that I worry what eliminating fighting altogether could lead to in terms of cheap shots without fear and/or trying to bait players with dirty play.

I agree with the run of comments, here.

The hit on MacKinnon wasn't predatory.
I didn't like staged fights. Glad they are gone. They were as bad for the game as was rampant interference. (Interference better but still a problem)
Good to see Cozens show fire, but bad that he picked a non-fighter.

I'm not referring to Cozens here, but I'm a bit mystified by this love for "passion", even if it is done by an idiot in an uncalled for situation - did you see Jordan Binnington the other night? Got pulled after giving up a number of goals. On his way off the ice, he skated around and pushed or punched three different opponents who weren't even paying attention to him. Of course the St. Louis announcers, fans, and teammates praised his "passion".

Ovis $5K fine was well worth it. Frederic was going after him all game trying to pick a fight. Ovi in the box is way more impactful than Trent.

Frederick is a punk. I watched the game and laughed when he was locked up with Dowd in front of the net and went down. It was a nothing play, but Frederick was embarrassed and wanted to throw down over it.

The Binnington thing surprised me. After that happened, I saw so many comments from people who hate him. I never know how seriously to take this kind of thing, because the Internet was invented so that we could hate each other more efficiently. But there's an awful lot of anti-Binnington sentiment out there, and that's apparently been the case for a while. I've been out of the loop.

I don't know. The media needs something to talk about so they just go on and on about 'passion'. But sometimes in a long regular season and thinks are not going well, you just need some emotion. Like my Flames right now are playing with zero emotion, just going through the motions and running into each other during warm-up. Sometimes a refocus is needed. Also Cousins does need to prove that he can't just be pushed around. This is why Crosby has gotten into the odd fight.

A hockey fight is the equivalent of a baseball manager getting into a big argument just to get thrown out. Or in an office, a manager blowing up in a staff meeting to show they he cares about this project and needs everyone on board.

This is exactly where I'm at with fighting. And it's where the vast majority of players are, at least according the accounts I've read in articles and books.

I think that's one of the things that is often over-looked by anti-fighting people. And, I know a lot players in all sports hold onto antiquated "unwritten rules" and all that... But I just think that where we are now (post-goon era) is about right.

I really didn't like the idea of a guy taking up a 4th line roster spot mainly so he could get tapped on the shoulder once a game to go have a forced fight. But when someone is getting out of hand or throwing around cheap shots, I just don't mind an in the moment "cut the shit" scrap.

Now, I really can't stand it when a guy gets leveled on a clean play and now everyone wants to fight the checker. That's just dumb.

^^^ That. Every big hit does not have to be a scrum. It's a tough game.

I think it depends on who the big hitter is and if it was felt that he intended to hurt. "Taking Liberties" Again, in Calgary when Giordano hits someone a scrum doesn't ensue but when Tkachuk hits someone it does because Tkachuk is dirty.

Flames win last night 7-3 and immediately fire the coach. No surprise. The surprise is Darryl Sutter is the new, and again, head coach of the Flames. Abd not just for the rest of the year. For THREE years. This is GM Brad Treliving's 4th coach, last roll of the dice.

Definitely, he'll old-school them into something. No more excuses for the players, we'll know know who's good and who's not. Line is now drawn in the sand. It will either be glorious or lead to the complete breakup of this current team. I am ok with both.

Once again not a hockey guy but was that dirty or sloppy? When I saw it I saw a guy bend over farther than usual and put his head in a bad spot. If he is upright that is just a normal check. Guess asking if that was avoidable or unlucky.

Never deny that he plays physical hockey and is more body oriented than most. He puts himself in position for bad scenarios like this. And he has been on the wrong side of physical hockey but is that line thin or thick......dirty in hockey is predatory, dangerous may not always be dirty.

Ovechkin played the same way early in his career. He's a big, strong player, but he figured out a way to throw his body around without being reckless or predatory. Players can change if they want to.

Yesterday afternoon, it felt like every headline I read was about the dismal state of the Sabres. At least Wilson takes the heat off them for a while.

Whenever Bruin fans complain about the Wilson hit or something similar, there are always yeah but Marchand replies. Bruins twitter claims he's cleaned up his act over the last few seasons, but his shenanigans seem to distract from how good of a player he's been.
