The whole breakdown and explanation makes the play even worse.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
I think others like Giff have noted this but if he literally did anything other than throw the ball, then the play works out fine. He could have sat down in the middle of the baseline and that would have worked out fine. It's flabbergasting. The only worse option would have been just throwing the ball into the stands or intentionally shitting his pants.

Imagine if Dave Kingman hit against the shift.

I’m pretty sure the Braves aren’t so fucking happy they got Ozuna.

Starting to really believe in the Giants. They're crushing Dodger pitching this weekend.

Hate to be cynical but they're probably just sad he got caught. Not sure the Angels would care if Mike Trout was chopping up hookers and dumping the bodies on the 405 as long as he didn't get caught and kept raking 1.000+ OPS

All it took was the trash can-banging for people to forget Brandon Taubman.

Buffalo NY: If you see a middle-aged dude in a Bautista jersey with a girl wearing a Vladdy Jr shirtsey tonight in right field that might just be me.

In addition to being on a 14-game losing streak, the Orioles have dropped 21 of their 23 games overall. It has been...bad.

Poor little snowflake thinks he can tell MLB where they have to play the All-Star game.

There’s an article on the Athletic wondering if the O’s fanbase is wavering on Mike Elias’ rebuild.tennbengal wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:49 pm In addition to being on a 14-game losing streak, the Orioles have dropped 21 of their 23 games overall. It has been...bad.
I think the fact that three of the Orioles’ minor league teams currently sit in first place (their AAA team down in Norfolk is in last place) bodes well for their future.

I’m not. But it is rough in the meantime. I was at Camden for game two of the now 14 in a row where they lost 6-3 lead in the seventh. I am back tonight - maybe I can see the end of this streak.EnochRoot wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 5:30 pmThere’s an article on the Athletic wondering if the O’s fanbase is wavering on Mike Elias’ rebuild.tennbengal wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:49 pm In addition to being on a 14-game losing streak, the Orioles have dropped 21 of their 23 games overall. I am seven rows off the field where the grass meets the dirt on the third base side. Pre-game note - michael Pineda is a big dude.

Cedric Mullins just made one of the better OF plays I’ve seen live in five decades of making my way to ballparks. He went a LONG way for that too.

He’s also tripled and singled in his first two at-bats and added a stolen base. I am on cycle watch.
Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
At very least live on the tv I’ve seen multiple no-hitters, a couple of which were perfect games (Halladay's and Randy Johnson's). I’ve seen at least two triple plays including an unassisted one. I’ve never once seen a guy complete a cycle live.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
The mention of the cycle reminds me of "grounding out for the cycle". I was at a Dodger game with a friend years ago. The scoreboard recaps what the batter has done in previous plate appearances and, late in the game, we noticed that the batter's first three at-bats were "grounded out to 3B", "grounded out to SS", and "grounded out to 2B". This led to our jokes and the gracious batter complied by making it a "natural" cycle by grounding out to first.
Also, the Tigers just notched their first month over .500 in three years, wrapping up May at 14-13, and their first month with a positive run differential since 2016.

Yeah. He'll never know it, but I'm pretty sure I'm the one who turned everything around.
Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
Strasburg had his first 3 starts in a row streak in something like 3 years last night and had to exit with an injury. Nats got a WS with him but he is falling apart. Lots of talk about his form causing his injuries. I blame his terrible facial hair.

For some reason, he's always reminded me of Ben McDonald for some reason. Just in terms of hype and then kind of petering out...

Ben McDonald. I cannot hear that name and not think of Paul Carey hitting that walk-off grand slam off McDonald, leading Stanford to the national title.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 3:46 pm For some reason, he's always reminded me of Ben McDonald for some reason. When was the last time (before Fernando Tatis Jr.) that the best player in baseball was the most exciting player in baseball. I'm really not sure (because both are obviously subjective) but you have to go back before the start of Mike Trout's career for any correct answers.

Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
I think you might have to go all the way back to Willie. When I think "exciting" for baseball, I get an image of a tinge of recklessness in his play. And even at the heights of their powers, I never really got that level of daring from Junior or Bonds. I picture Rickey or Roberto in terms of daring and reckless for excitement, and unless my knowledge is failing me, I see both peak excelling and excitement in my mind's eye of Willie's batting helmet flying off as he's rounding second to stretch into a triple.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
Yeah, it was Junior. He got hurt and was never the same player the second half of his career (for basically his entire time in Cincinnati)…

I think Griffey is probably closest to the right answer in my mind, but I see the arguments for Willie Mays as well.
