Fun game, but for the abundance of injuries and the result.

Well...back to not watching football again. Utah just ran out of steam in the second half, and geez...they really couldn't cover tOSU's receivers.
My question is...how the hell did tOSU lose to Michigan?

That game gave me major 1998 NCAA Final vs Kentucky vibes. Until that last freak TD for the Utes.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 8:56 pm Well...back to not watching football again. Utah just ran out of steam in the second half, and geez...they really couldn't cover tOSU's receivers.

Easily the best football game I’ve ever been to though.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Well, I think the main reason that run-and-gun game occurred in the first place on Saturday illustrates how Michigan was able to win this year. OSU's defense is a mess.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 10:24 pmThat game was an ass whipping. Crazy that ESPN completely missed that recovery* until the Georgia player was almost in the end zone.

That's a little too cute. Your defense is playing great. Make them get a TD plus the 2-point under pressure.

not cute at all, especially when the penalty on the TD would have put the ball at the 1.5
the next frontier will be coaches choosing to go for 9 point leads over 8 point leads in the fourth quarter
Saban should also have gone for the TD instead of the field goal at the 3 down 13-9

#1 - Kick the PAT, up 8, Bama needs a TD and a successful two point conversion. GA wins if both don't happen.
#2/3 - Go for 2 and fail or miss the PAT. You're up 7, saban probably is going to go to OT even if they score. Bama can only tie it, but a blocked PAT wins it for GA. If Bama does go for 2 and the win, yes you can lose, but you can also win the game if they fail.
#4 - Go for 2, make it, you're up 9 with under four minutes so bama has to score twice.
Just seems like many more scenarios where UGA wins the game then and there and only one scenario where they lose, and you'd have to stop a 2 point conversion to win it either way if you're up 8 (game tied or you win if they fail) or 7 and Bama tries to win it with a 2-pt conversion. Yes you can lose here, but you can also win here. Added up I think the probabilities say go for two there, especially since you were getting half the distance as Bronto mentioned.

Re: NCAA Football 2021 Thread
I feel like I’ve seen data showing that the better move is to play for 1. Though it must be pretty context sensitive. At the very least, going up 9 seems like a good strategy when it’s Week 10 of the NFL season and you have a chance to take out your starters/avoid OT.

Re: NCAA Football 2021 Thread
You want to limit your chances of losing. Why even give Alabama the chance to win the game with a 2 point conversion if you fail?
You kick the PAT and 3 things need to happen for you to lose. TD + 2pt + OT. And remember, it's college OT not sudden death NFL OT.
Yes, the half the distance penalty made it tempting.

Re: NCAA Football 2021 Thread
you also want to increase your chances of winning the game. and 1.5 yards to essentially seal the national title game needs to be viewed through the prism of making it a two-score game rather than thinking of the what-if of giving up a 75-yard TD+2 drive to a team missing its two players with more than 35 catches on the season

Not sure how I forgot how annoyed I'd be by all the fans of the other SEC teams who weren't there last night acting like they won a damn championship.

the feeling of superiority from SEC fans should be from the other conferences' inability to figure out what kind of expanded playoff they want

Hey, Dsafe... Looks like 'cuse pulled in a pretty good QB from the portal. Former M guy Dan Villari... https://www.si.com/college/syracuse/rec ... o-syracuse
No shame in transferring out of that room in Ann Arbor. 5 star trying to take over from a guy that just accomplished things hadn't been done in two decades, plus some tough competition coming in.
Villari has 4 years of eligibility left, I'm not mistaken.

Look, I'm about as parochial as you're going to find on this board. Of course I made it about MI's stacked QB room. :D

Re: NCAA Football 2021 Thread
I for sure root for the Atlantic 10 (aside from St. Joe's) in the tourney, but I think its different since we're an underdog conference. I don't root for the AL East once the Yankees are eliminated.
(And I wouldn't root for most other PL teams in Champions League, although I'm not quite sure how that works?)
Re: NCAA Football 2021 Thread
All else equal, I generally root for any college team from west of the Mississippi River against teams from the other side. Especially the Mountain West, since they usually lose.

Saw Villari was a 3-star kid out of Long Island. His transfer breaking last night was way more exciting than the Syracuse basketball game that was gong on at the time.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 1:33 pm Hey, Dsafe... I'm a little more excited about getting a new OC and QB coach from Virginia.
