Earl Holliman. Character actor in tons of 50s, 60s and 70s movies and TV shows. I remember him best from Police Woman, with Angie Dickinson.

There are many folks in this thread that perhaps deserved their own.
Abrahams deserved his own not only because he perhaps taught Barbara Billingsley to speak jive, but because there are literally hundreds of over the top silly moment to subtle 'heh' moments in all of those movies.
RIP Mr. Abrahams. What is the condition of Sergeant Kruger?
[pause]
Very well, let me know if there is any change in his condition.
[Hangs up]
He's dead.

When I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards,” Drebin tells the mayor. “That was a Shakespeare-in-the Park production of Julius Caesar,” she replies. “You killed five actors. Good ones.”
The clarification pushes it over the top.

Sometimes guys outlive their own celebrity status. If he would have died 20 years ago, his death would’ve gotten a whole lot more publicity.

In the 1987 Big East Tournament, these were 7 of the 9 coaches: Jim Calhoun, Jim Boeheim, John Thompson, Rick Pitino, Lou Carnesecca, Rollie Massimino, and PJ Carlesimo.

Probably speaks more to how much college basketball has changed, but the worst win % he had over 24 seasons was .586 which they've only reached 12 of 32 times since.
Re: Worthy of mention, too obscure for own thread
Don't forget Jim O'Brien - HC Boston College. He's the guy who got fired from both BC and Ohio State. I know he sued BC for breach of contract. He had a show-cause stamped on his forehead after they had to vacate like four years of games played during his tenure at Ohio State.L-Jam3 wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:36 pm In the 1987 Big East Tournament, these were 7 of the 9 coaches: Jim Calhoun, Jim Boeheim, John Thompson, Rick Pitino, Lou Carnesecca, Rollie Massimino, and PJ Carlesimo.

And the 9th coach was Paul Evans at Pitt who I have no recollection of but who (1) had a 20-something John Calipari on his bench and (2) that same year broke a young Mister D's heart by knocking Marist out of the NCAA tourney.
Re: Worthy of mention, too obscure for own thread
More super fun trivia there: Literally everyone in the entire world knows that Rik Smits was on that Marist team, but did you know he was one of three euro 7-footers on the roster??? And one is Rudy Gobert's dad???????

Slim Dunlap, guitarist for the great Minneapolis band, The Replacements, whose heyday was in the 1980s.
In 2012, Dunlap suffered a severe stroke, and had been basically debilitated since then. A notable benefit concert and album came out a few years ago to help pay his medical bills.Bob "Slim" Dunlap was a rock musician from Plainview, Minn. known for being a member of The Replacements. Dunlap was guitarist and singer-songwriter. He was a part of the band from 1987 to 1991 after he replaced original lead guitarist Bob Stinson.
He played on The Replacements’ 1989 album “Don't Tell A Soul” and their 1990 album “All Shook Down.” After the band’s break up in 1991, he went on to pursue a solo career. Dunlap recorded two solo albums in the ‘90s: “The Old New Me” (1993) and “Times Like This” (1996).

You've got a new favorite band then. Their discography is fantastic. I especially like the late era stuff Slim played on.

Kind of surprising that any of the Replacements are still alive, considering their history.sancarlos wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 8:59 pm Slim Dunlap, guitarist for the great Minneapolis band, The Replacements, whose heyday was in the 1980s.

Giff, they were an important, influential band. Started off as a punky band of goofballs, transitioned to a major label, slicker production, showed more thoughtful lyrics, became a great live band when they wanted, but a wild, drunken mess on nights they didn’t - their drinking and partying was legendary, even in the world of rock and roll. (They got banned from SNL for getting drunk before they performed.) Paul Westerberg was an excellent frontman and lyricist.bfj wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 4:54 pmMy gob has been smacked. Dave Urick. Hobart and Georgetown lacrosse coach. Stadium at Hobart is named after him. Won 10 consecutive national titles there. Also as a D3 school beat #1 ranked Syracuse in won of the great game from the 80s. Met him a few times and a true Gentlemen. His son was a star at Georgetown and the pros and now a high school coach I run into.

Star music producer Richard Perry
Richard Perry, a hitmaking record producer with a flair for both standards and contemporary sounds whose many successes included Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” Rod Stewart’s “The Great American Songbook” series and a Ringo Starr album featuring all four Beatles, died Tuesday. He was 82.
Perry was a onetime drummer, oboist and doo-wop singer who proved at home with a wide variety of musical styles, the rare producer to have No. 1 hits on the pop, R&B, dance and country charts. He was on hand for Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” and The Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited,” Tiny Tim’s novelty smash “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” and the Willie Nelson-Julio Iglesias lounge standard “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.” Perry was widely known as a “musician’s producer,” treating artists like peers rather than vehicles for his own tastes. Singers turned to him whether trying to update their sound (Barbra Streisand), set back the clock (Stewart), revive their career (Fats Domino) or fulfill early promise (Leo Sayer).

Well did play a tournament with the younger brother in Honolulu. Great memory of a party at this Millionaire's house where the younger brother put on a concert by the pool singing crude original folks songs. I did not end up in bed with him, but pretty sure he did not sleep alone that night..rass wrote: Wed Dec 25, 2024 5:00 pm This is like that show Laid peacock has been advertising but instead of someone’s sexual partners randomly dying it’s people wlulax has been laxual with.

Aaron Brown, veteran ABC News anchor, dies at 76
He got his start on the local news here in Seattle, so its a big story here. My memory is that he had been hired by CNN, but hadn't officially started working for them when 9/11 happened. He just started reporting from the roof of the building, with a clear view of the towers.Leaving behind a legacy in American broadcasting, former ABC News anchor Aaron Brown died at the age of 76 on Sunday, his wife confirmed.
He is remembered for his coverage of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Brown's live reporting from the top of the CNN building in Manhattan went on to earn him the Edward R. Murrow Award
