There's a catch. It's the next 8 lowest teams that did not hold a playoff spot when the season ended. So even though Vancouver and Calgary had lower reg season point percentage, they were holding playoff spots because they were in a shitty division, conference.

Now that I've seen how this is done, I'm shocked that the NHL doesn't make a huge show out of this like the World Cup Draw (obviously not this year). They could have supermodels and legends draw balls. Have the GMs there and whenever the first balls comes out, in this case it was a 9, have a big board that regenerates the odds and interview the GMs to see what they think. NHL marketing needs to get on this.

Ottawa had a 4/11 chance to get the 1st pick on the last ball. Ouch.

Think I’d rather have the third overall pick than Erik Karlsson for the next 7 years at $11M/yr. As much as the Sens get bagged on they’ve done a great job acquiring prospects and draft capital.

So, the winner of the draft lottery is "team to be named later". What an anticlimax. The NHL should have just waited until after the first round of the playoffs to do their lottery picks.

Hindsight is 20/20. It's your nature to monday morning quarterback it. But at the time of the deal, the Sharks had only missed the playoffs once in this century, so of course they didn't expect the pick they gave up to be early in the round.

That was really more about appreciating the Sens rebuilding job than anything. Ironically the only questionable deal they made was Stone for Brannstrom.

Looks like this is happening.

Wise move by the NHL to have both hubs/bubbles in Canada. For that reason only, there's a chance they might actually be able to get through the playoffs.

I mean it more sarcastically as in I have shit to actually to do in my job but will absolutely ignore it all for six hours if necessary.

I’m curious how OT playoff hockey changes without fans. Like everything in all sports will be worse, but I bet losing the building tension there will be the biggest overall loss.

I’m going to need a minute (full week) if Henrik opts out because it’ll likely signal the end. Jeter played until he was like three years away from Biggio level hanging on; Henrik is still a no-doubt starter in the league but pushed by two others who are the same.

A Ranger-hater would say that is a peak Ranger fan statement.

The tradeoff is also having three no-doubt starter in the league defensemen.
