Well, this is a tale of woe... Jesus... Northern CO and Ed McCaffery getting all kinds of the wrong kind of press.

Is there any way to read the Harbaugh interview with the Minnesota Vikings other than as a big FU to Michigan? It’s got to crater Michigan’s recruiting efforts. Who wants to join a school where the coach is interviewing elsewhere? Other schools’ recruiters will be sure to point that out.

ETA - I'll just put this edit up top.. While I don't think it's intended as an FU, that's how this is playing out. I don't really know how he can come back after all this and NOT be hampered by his heavy flirtation with the NFL.

Other schools have used "Harbaugh is going to the NFL" since 2016.

95 percent of MI players for the 2022 class have already signed. They are not in the mix for undeclared/signed 4 or 5 star players (according to the sites I follow.)

The way this played out, the Vikings hired a GM that has close ties to people that are close to Harbaugh. That happened very late. I don't really think it's a FU to the school, really. As I posted above, he's got some strong incentive to give the NFL another shot, most of those doors seemed to close over the last 2 weeks, now this popped up.

I think I'm with a lot of the M fanbase, though, in wanting this all to be over with, one way or the other. I'm ecstatic with how the team turned it around, but I also think there are systemic issues with Harbaugh and the team might be better off with a younger, less bizarre person running the program.

If they target someone like Matt Campbell (and they certainly should), could end up being a net positive for the program.

Welp... Seems like Harbaugh's not getting the Vikings job?

JFC.

What a shitshow. Glad it's "over" for this year, but, man... They sure need to start thinking about a coach-in-waiting scenario. Does JH's quirky reputation make him unwanted at the NFL level???

BTW, just another in the long line of bad/misleading reporting on these types of scenarios.

Hard to say for sure and/or trust it, but Harbaugh's story seems to be he's not going to flirt with the NFL any more. Like I said, I doubt it but we'll see.

Yeah, I mean, he has to say that for recruiting and hiring a new DC.

There might be a kernel of truth to it, in that he may have been wrung out by this last month of nonsense. Like I alluded to before, I wonder if he got through 9 hours of grilling in Minnie and he's just not gonna bend over backward and compromise or give up control in order to appease another owner and his kids. (Recalling the b.s. in San Francisco and why he got fired/left.)

There are lots of pros and cons of both college and pros. Nick Saban has made a pretty damn good life for himself after having glimpsed the NFL world. MI has barriers that most other schools don't in terms of recruiting and academics, but now with NIL, they also have one of the top 10 brands in all of sports. Even if they're not great out of the gates, they are going to be competitive in that market.

This tweet sums up a lot of my curiosity about Bryan Harsin's current situation.

Twitter is a cesspool and I can't tell if there were rumors of inappropriate relations before he was already on the hot seat and everyone learned his assistant is cute, or if the rumors of inappropriate relations started because he's on the hot seat and the fact that his assistant is cute bubbled up. Just wondering if it's possible the guy is maybe a bad coach but maybe a good dude perfectly capable of working with a younger woman without being inappropriate.

Had I known "sewing circle" would be so upsetting, I wouldn't have posted it. My apologies.

I want to make a joke about our periods synching up, but that seems like a bad idea this morning.

NCAA football in general, and the SEC specifically, is one giant sewing circle. Embrace the insanity.

He doesn't have to, Oklahoma and Texas are going to the SEC, not Baylor.

I also wonder about things like "is it possible Harsin and his wife have an open marriage, so she's knows (and approves, based on the social media?) of what he's doing, and it was a lot easier for him to hide it at Boise State, but things proved to be different at a higher-profile job with a fanbase who is, for geographically-stereotyped reasons, very likely to disapprove of this theoretical Harsins' decision?"

My posting of that was in no way endorsing Austin.

I do endorse the usage of "sewing circle", even using it to describe an email chain with several friends about Syracuse sports.

Doug is the guy I'm most often referring to when I go the "I have it on good authority" route on here.

We've been BFFs ever since we shared a long bus ride to Petersborogh, Ontario in middle school as part of a sister city-style Olympics thing. We've been in each others respective wedding parties and see each other at least once a year.

I'm still slightly in shock, just because it's really rare you see someone reach a childhood dream like this. We used to sit around listening to Bob Ufer calls on vinyl records, for cripes sake.

Not for nothing, but Branny was a really poor PbP guy. His transition into that chair never really took. He was fine if you were watching the game and could piece together the action despite his call. But listening to him on the radio as the sole source?

Terrible.

Lots of loveable hurr durr with Dierdorf, if Shutdown Fullcast is to be believed, and then a few problematic comments last offseason, IIRC.

Dierdorf is fine and they were a lovable homer duo. But, yeah, they were Bo guys and made a number of problematic statements in the wake of shit coming out. "Not the Bo I know" type of stuff.
