I've literally never done any sort of campaigning on behalf of any candidate, but I just submitted a volunteer form for the woman running against my current rep.

Exactly. The MTG/Boebert stuff cracks me up. It would not if one of them were my rep.

Charles is doing exactly what Trump should be doing. Entertaining us all with absurdity on the TV. We would all love him. It's just theres no line between politics/governing and entertainment. It's not trumps fault. It's the media that made us all this way. Go back to when no one cared except Washington geeks

I would argue you are normalizing Trump, and yes you can fault the media all the while for that as well. FWIW Trump went full on racist-bigot when Obama got elected. That was never entertaining to me, but whatever.

This is in no way a defense, but one factor in TFG’s, and for that matter any nepo-baby thinking, is that he literally never had a job he could get fired from until he was president. Imagine all throughout your life that would could literally do anything, and it wouldn’t cost you your livelihood. It’s not a hard jump to creating a false sense of superiority and invincibility. The rest of us keep our ideas on the straight and narrow because there’s at least a little fear that if our boss found out, we’d be out on his ass. But if that fear is never present, a distorted worldview is understandable, if not excusable.

On the corollary, he got fired from 100% of the jobs where he wasn’t his own boss. That’s always fun to point to MAGA dipshits.

There is a lot of reporting on Trump being racist long before he came near politics. Assuming certain high rollers wouldn't want to see black employees at his casinos and having them all leave the floor is just one that pops into my head.

Yeah, I was going for stuff that hasn't been talked about much. There's a lot of stuff around how he treated employees and he carried much of his father's racist rental practices into how he conducted business.

Yeah, Boebert represents my hometown, so I feel your pain. But thankfully she’s already moved to a different district (where she’s likely to lose the Republican primary).

Turns out it happened 20 years ago...in Mexico. Not while Biden was President, but while GW Bush was President.

Holy fucking shit. That's reprehensible.

Quick math dictates that when you say "woman" and "since she was 12" something was off. But my God that's clearly something else.

Edit:

Why doesn't the official White House feed reach out to that guy and ask to repost his info? If I'm president I fucking do that shit yesterday. And I relentlessly try to shame Republicans for their fearmongering.

They can’t be shamed. If the WH responds, it keeps it in the media longer. Nobody remembers anything past 10 hours anyways. And you can put all the evidence in the world in front of MAGAts, and they’ll either say it’s a lie, or twist it or change the subject. We are in a post-fact world, nothing matters. Ironic, the “fuck your feelings” crowd are fueled by emotions (fear and anger) and oblivious to facts they don’t fit their feelings.

I want to know how this Mexican woman got in the country (good chance she sought asylum). If their hero tried to get in today, they’d be fighting to get her out. It drives me nuts how the Right lumps legit asylum seekers in with “illegals.” You can legally enter and claim asylum. Not to mention, Melanie was here illegally when Trump married her.

I mean it keeps the lie in the media longer. And it will eventually run its course, but to me you have to push back.

Anyhoo, I was entertained by Vaush's commentary on Britt's rebuttal. It starts at 34:20 and goes on for a bit.

Edit:

At least 1 person agrees with me:

A bit of a tangential point, but the normalization of fact-free discourse (especially when levied to conjure up hate for the most vulnerable people) is really really corrosive and makes me sad when I think about where we go from here. There's literally no punishment now for straight up lying to demonize people or for whatever political reason. I feel like the only thing to do is vote and do my part to make my own little part of the world a bit kinder and more decent. But boy does it feel like a drop in the bucket.

I think there's punishment for this one.

She must have done that on her own (like Jameis Winston!). Her tone and stories were so dramatic and self-serving and why is she in a kitchen!? Most Republicans both pro and anti Trump panned the speech immediately. The Democrats probably aren't attacking because it was so ridiculous it's not worth it. People know it's a lie and Britt just torpedoed her career.

Perfectly normal stuff here...

Biden effigy beaten at GOP event in Kansas; ex-official calls for resignations
Attendees at a Kansas county Republican Party event punched, kicked and took a baseball bat to an effigy of President Biden on Friday, sparking backlash from former party officials.

The Johnson County Republican Party’s “Road to Red” event in suburban Overland Park, near Kansas City, featured donations in exchange for opportunities to hit a martial arts dummy with a rubber Biden mask and a “Let’s Go Brandon” T-shirt, according to photos and video from the evening.

It cracks me up when people respond to Biden with rage and violence. Sure, there is a lot to complain about with Biden, but I just can't fathom being angry about him. All this talk of Biden destroying our country... WTF? I thought he was too old and incompetent to do anything, yet he is powerful enough to intentionally destroy our country?

Seen a couple great interviews with people outside Trump rallies. Complaining that the country is going to shit, next sentence saying Trump is really the President and making all decisions and Biden is pretending. Then when confronted with the obvious, "everything bad is Biden, everything good is Trump." And they are dumb enough to believe this.

The Onion can't keep up these days...

Aaron Rodgers and Jesse Ventura Top R.F.K. Jr.’s List for Running Mate
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has recently approached the N.F.L. quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the former Minnesota governor and professional wrestler Jesse Ventura about serving as his running mate on an independent presidential ticket, and both have welcomed the overtures, two people familiar with the discussions said.

Mr. Kennedy confirmed on Tuesday that the two men were at the top of his list. It is not clear if either has been formally offered the post, however, and Mr. Kennedy is still considering a shortlist of potential candidates, the people familiar with the discussions said.

Mr. Kennedy said that he had been speaking with Mr. Rodgers “pretty continuously” for the past month, and that he had been in touch with Mr. Ventura since the former governor introduced him at a campaign event last month in Arizona.

I think you’re missing the bigger picture. First those outlets don’t have the personnel to track down every lie by every GOP politician. Especially the relatively smaller fish like Britt.

What this DOES show is the critical importance of local media still.

She was a small fish up until she gave the GOP response to the SOtU. At that point, she was major national news.

Agreed on the value of local media though. It's just not clear how to turn that value into revenue to support local media.

The rightwing has been consolidating local media news outlets for the past several years.

It's why that twit can lie bold-faced and get away with it. Nobody on the right will hear about it. At all. Instead, they'll receive their daily unease about the bogeymen in the neighboring metro.
