Is the SI cover jinx still a thing because the Lions were picked to win the Super Bowl and put on the cover of the NFL Preview issue and I really can’t believe that’s an actual sentence I was able to accurately type.

The Lions sold out of standing room tickets for a preseason game and caused a false start penalty. That opener against the Rams on SNF is gonna be fucking crazy.
Their away games are lined up to the point where there might be as many if not more Lions fans at almost all 17 games.
(They have 9 home games. The road games:
Arizona (60-70 Lions)
Dallas (25-40)
Minnesota (30-45)
Green Bay (20-35)
Houston (30-45)
Indianapolis (50-60)
Chicago (40-55)
San Francisco (25-35)

So are they gonna let Dak walk after this year? It’s a dangerous game of chicken they’re playing.

Maybe franchise Dak and then work on an extension based on a higher cap? He’s gotta be around 65 AAV next season, right?

I think he extracted a clause where they can’t franchise him. I assume with his leverage any deal starts with at least $60M AAV. On the open market next offseason if he doesn’t get hurt or otherwise impact his standing at least 65 yeah.

Michael Rubin and Fanatics is really something else. They are able to make someone who possibly?/probably?/likely? had a dude murdered be the sympathetic party.

And even if they could it would be the third time so the salary would probably be astronomical

Admittedly I don't know the ins and outs of the salary cap, but the browns now have $62 million in space after a Watson restructure. What frigging good does that do AFTER the final roster cuts are made? Is it a timing issue that it couldn't be done until now, which seems like it might make sense.
Anyway, worst contract ever.

Anytime you can spend $15 mill per TD pass thrown you gotta do that.

Completely talking out of my ass and using an example from 20+ years ago, but I think when there’s a restructuring, a team can get an extension on another guy, and have some of the bonus count early this year instead of spread along the life of the deal. My example was when Philly extended McNabb circa 2002, they had a bunch of space going into that year and applied a chunk of his bonus in the particular year.
Maybe they’re considering extending Garrett. Again, I’m completely talking out of my ass here.

No that sounds right. These contracts especially for QBs are designed to have money to move for restructuring but if I recall right it adds to the cap on the back end of the deal. In Watson’s case maybe not the biggest deal since he’s not likely to play out the whole life of the deal or close to it I’d think but they’re eventually be a big dead cap hit though again that was coming at some point anyway.

I'm sure they can massage the terms of his deal to get the happy ending they need.

Aiyuk, four year extension/120 mil if anyone cares about such things. Even better for him, he doesn't have to play in the Steelers offense.
