Mine's pretty boring, but that's mostly because Spotify is pretty much useless here at my office these days. Super laggy. have been having much better luck with Amazon Prime Music.

I use Deezer, and am very happy with it.

Swamp Radio is the way to go, really.

(I think I signed up for Spotify years ago and used it perhaps 10 minutes.)

I can't imagine listening to Bust A Move that much in one year. I'm a fan and all, but #5 for the year?

Well, 1477 (minutes) / 5 = 295, so he must have spent no more (and more likely much less) than that listening to Bust a Move. Even at 295 minutes, that's only 65 plays. Seems pretty reasonable for such a classic!

My top album was Weird Al's new one, which I remember listening to once. The only other album I remember playing is the "new" Pink Floyd outtake thing. This is the result of creating a really big play mix and then not using Spotify much. My guess is it played Bust a Move twice. Young MC is really pissed at the committee. Procul Harum destroying that Wisconsin band should not have put them in the tournament.

New Yorker has an article about it as well.
Guess who went No. 1? And predictably, the bros ain't happy.

Thanks. Recommended for the sort of whiny quotes from the artist push back against the "bro country" label.

“All I’m gonna say about that is, I don’t know one girl who doesn’t want to be a girl in a country song,” Kelley said. “That’s all I’m gonna say to you. That’s it.”
This reasoning is used so often for a variety of other class-style conflicts. So, so, so rich.

Very similar to this
On the subject of slavery, he writes in his book of the same name: "Did America owe something to the slaves whose labor had been stolen?" Yes, he states, but "that debt . . . is best discharged through memory, because the slaves are dead and their descendants are better off as a consequence of their ancestors being hauled from Africa to America."
That's from a movie that a Florida state senator is trying to make mandatory for 8th and 11th graders.

I need to check the full list when I get home, but my top song was Cinnamon and Lesbians by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.

Watching this R.E.M by MTV and I'm reminded just how brilliant they really were. Every album they did until Bill Berry left varied from a minimum of "damn good" to "top 50 all-time great rock album".

Pitchfork gave it a 5.6. Sleater-Kinney 8.7, Belle & Sebastian 6.6 round out the release day that should have happened a decade ago.

(Those are all factual rankings.)

((I haven't gotten to hear any of them yet. Always had a like / annoyed relationship with the Decemberists completely dependent on my mood that day.))

I just found it on Spotify. Not sure if it was there yesterday or not, I was too into the Ryan Bingham to notice.

It usually takes me 4-5 listens straight through to form an opinion of a Decemberists' album. The king is dead and Hazards of Love annoyed me for a while but I grew to appreciate them. Crane Wife had a few good tracks on first listen but it took me a while to enjoy the whole thing and now I think it's one of my favorite complete albums.

Castaways and Cutouts and Picaresque are still just OK to me. Few good songs, but not great overall in my opinion.

He teeters a fine line of being weird and seemingly like he's actively trying to seem weird. Which again, could just be my mood that day.

He's a creative writing major, so there's a good chance he's weird, but also a good chance that he can create weirdness when it isn't there.

So no help to you there.

AB. et al., I highly recommend the Black Prairie album of last year, it's a band composed of most of the Decemberists sans Mr Meloy.

Yes. Colin Meloy is the lead singer/songwriter. Black Prairie leans more toward the bluegrass and Americana than the Decemberists as well.
