maybe it's because the NCAA has a rule for it that was created five years ago?
A former student at the certifying institution (e.g., former student-athlete) may participate in an organized practice session on an occasional basis, provided the institution does not publicize the participation of the former student at any time before the practice session.
sure but this is the organization that had to change who teams could scrimmage because of recruiting violations and only lets so many coaches on a team, etc to keep things "Fair".

wait, so you're arguing the NCAA should make a rule against the one it made 5 years ago because people are abiding by the one made 5 years ago?

Fully aware. My original post had the historical context... my personal embittered opinion based on 40 years of watching Rose Bowls where USC and UCLA are playing home games.

And he actually just said Minnesota is his "dream job" at this presser. How can anyone believe a word out of this guy's mouth. He makes Trump seem like a beacon of virtue.

That seems hugely unlikely. They did tie for the Big Ten title in 1967, but with Minnesota having no history of much success since then, and Fleck having no apparent personal history in the state, how can he say that with a straight face?

ETA: I did a little more research on Fleck. I see that he coached under Jerry Kill at Northern Illinois and considers him a mentor. Of course, Kill was subsequently head coach at Minnesota, and Kill was quoted this week as saying that, as a result of the recent issues there, he was upset with the university and would never again have anything to do with Minnesota football.

I'll say it. Sarkisian has been pretty bland. Even the touchdown runs were mostly player effort.

I think it's ESPN as much as anything else. Monday Night Football seemed to last at least 3 1/2 hours every week. With the rule differences for clock stoppages, college is even worse.

I'm watching this game tonight via the WatchESPN app. They have a bunch of different feeds. I'm streaming the skycam exclusively. No garbage play by play. It's all stadium noise and the stadium announcer and the bands playing in between plays.

Also, in lieu of some commercial breaks, the feed stays hot and ventures into the sideline huddles. Some decent swearing is picked up over the mics amongst other chatter.

I highly recommend watching it this way if you are able.

The Film Room with coaches on ESPNews has been entertaining, especially in the second half. I"m admittedly watching (and biased) for Dino Babers, but it's fun to see who has personality and listen to coaches expound on their decision making and strategy. Matt Rhule from Baylor seems like a really personable guy. Dave Doeren from NC State has zero personality. Steve Addazio from Boston College needs a time machine back to 1926, where his coaching acumen fits.

I love the film room. Reminds me why I used to really like football. The coaches banter is funny as well as informative, plus they show a wide camera shot, you can see all 22 players and the full pass routes/coverage. This has become one of my favorite sports telecasts of the year. Yeah, Dino is cool.

Oooh, this film room link is good too.

We need this for comedians. Bill Burr did commentary during Miami/Pittsburgh, I'd love to see what he'd have to say during this.
