Kind of amazing he sat out nearly three years, and will play in the playoffs again. If he is close to his old standard, it should be an emotional lift for the Avalanche.

If VGK wins tonight (or the Kings lose in regulation today) it will be VGK’s 4th division title in 8 seasons.

The Kings have 1 division title in 57 seasons.

Huge Flames win last night.

Blues and Wild hold the two wildcard spots, 93 points with 2 games left. Flames at 90 points with 2 games left

Flames have two paths to get win with favorable help from the out of town scoreboard.

Go Kraken and Canucks tonight!

Technically, Winnipeg/Arizona is now defunct. So Trav is counting Atlanta/Winnipeg as an “original” WHA team for the purposes of the point. We’ll allow it.

How the Flames can still get in

MIN loses in reg, the Flames get 4 pts
STL loses in reg, Flames get 3 pts
STL loses in OT, Flames get 4 pts
STL wins in OT, Flames get 2 regulation wins

We'll do everything we can to help.

The big win over Nashville last night pushes the Club to an even .500 record for the year (counting ties as ties).

Wild tie it up with 20 seconds left so the Flames are eliminated.

Flames losing anyways but if the Ducks had held on it would made the 3rd period interesting.

Has been a great season for a team nobody expected to compete, even if it came up just short.

So, my cousin from Calgary is visiting us, with her husband and 14 year-old son. The kid is an Edmonton Oiler fan, (despite living in the city of their biggest rivals.) So, tonight we are going to see the last game of the season for the Sharks and Oilers. Meaningless game, but I hope McDavid plays, for the kid’s sake.

Hans clinch final spot.

Final night of regular season Thursday and not only are all playoff teams decided, all the matchups are too. 7 meaningless games. That must not happen too often.

Everyone in a leadership position and obviously Panarin should be gone before the puck drops tonight. They should have a long time ago, but I don't see any other choice without completely ruining Rosen's last game. Just fucking awful.

Unless something crazy happens MAF has played his last game. Would be a little poetic if his final game is in Vegas (not as much as Pittsburgh obviously but that’s not possible.

I post this not to celebrate how awesome Sid is (though the anecdote at the beginning almost gave me chills this AM) but because I got it from the daily Athletic newsletter, and the link was after a blurb about Aaron Rodgers whining about how the Jets and Aaron Glenn treated him, and then there was this paragraph which I also couldn't help but contrast with Rodgers' behavior:
Crosby nearly lost his career in 2011 because of a concussion that ultimately cost him more than 100 games. During this time, he researched concussions and spoke with so many doctors on so many occasions that he essentially became an expert on the subject. In the years that followed, any time one of the Penguins sustained a concussion, they’d be greeted with a conversation from Crosby. He wanted to know what they were feeling, wanted to educate them and, more than anything, wanted to make sure they didn’t return from the brain injury too soon.
Anyway, sucks that he's been playing so well this late in his career without the team being good enough to make something/anything of it.

Crosby's the perfect kind of athlete that I truly despise during a playoff series (or when he's drawing penalties by committing penalties during regular season games) but appreciate/respect all the rest of the time.

I think it’s even lamer than that. Drury is the same type of guy that Dolan is but cooler and that flies in Dolan’s world. Sather had his undivided attention before, Drury has it now because, at heart, Dolan has that Elon need to be loved by people he thinks are important or cool.

What’s kinda more annoying, on some level, is that a lot of smart rangers twitter (bluesky) is just coming around on this. The rangers had success under Drury but didn’t have success because of Drury. If he’s out tomorrow, his tenure will be remembered as forever chasing that top line wing he traded away for nothing inside the first month of his tenure. The entire core, except Trocheck who is on the decline and only through year 3/7, predates him in the top position.

Playoff appearances after Brian ceased being a superfan to become a superfan of a different team:
Detroit - 0
Las Vegas - TBD?

The NHL scheduling is a head-scratcher. Four teams start playoff play today, and they all play their second games on Monday. Yet, four other teams don't play their first playoff games until Tuesday.

The NHL is afraid to schedule against the NBA which OK but if you’re that fucking scared end the season two weeks earlier or later and not at the same time as NBA.

I think these two series tonight are the only ones where neither team played Thursday. NHL didn’t want to start anyone on one days rest I think.
