Along those lines, I mentioned in a non-creepy way (I think?) to my wife that Reese's legs look great while watching the Will Ferrell movie on Saturday.

Re: Movies
Yes that is what the movie is like. 1930s/40s era style with a whole lot of live action looney tunes. The rotten tomatoes folks rate this thing through the roof. Like I said it was good. Clearly unique and looney. Also they did a whole lot with a very low budget. The Sybian wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 12:36 pmWTF, is this trailer what the movie is like? Re: Movies
Spurred on by listening to the most recent episode of the "Blank Check" podcast, I watched "Raiders of the Lost Arc" again last night. Hadn't seen it in years...and I know I'm not breaking any hot news here...but damn that is just about the perfect movie. Everything about it is so so good.
One interesting point that they made on the podcast...they compared the fight between Indy and the "Big Nazi Airplane Mechanic" dude and any of the Vin Diesel fights in the Fast and Furious movies...saying that Diesel has it in his contracts that his character can ever lose a fight...and then thing about the moment when Indy gets punched by that dude and his knees completely buckle and he drops to the ground.

Going to see The Brutalist here shortly and don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to see a 4 hour movie.

A24 crushes it. Maybe the best ‘studio’ currently.

Was going to say something similar. There was an audible gasp from someone when the intermission card came up.

Second half was just as good. An absolute masterpiece. Up there with There Will Be Blood as a critique of capitalism.

I guess it’s less a critique of capitalism more than it is about how capitalism and commerce corrupts art.

Just finished watching this movie. It’s the silliest, most awesome movie I’ve ever seen. There are So. Many. Gags. Feel I need to watch this a dozen times to get all of them.wlu_lax6 wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:10 pmYes that is what the movie is like. 1930s/40s era style with a whole lot of live action looney tunes. I almost never go to the theater. Last two movies I went out of my way to go to the theaters to see them were Oppenheimer and Godzilla Minus One. Is this the type of film that plays up significantly in the theater?brian wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 10:26 pm I guess it’s less a critique of capitalism more than it is about how capitalism and commerce corrupts art.

Re: Movies
Yeah I was going to mention that. It was shot in VistaVision which mostly hasn’t been used since the 70s so it’s almost an IMAX effect without IMAX. It’s a 1.66:1 aspect ratio I think so it’s pretty spectacular on a big screen even though there’s obviously no special effects or the like.garyclark wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 9:42 amI almost never go to the theater. Just watched Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night. Really well done, and the cast was amazing. Even people you really know like JK Simmons and Matthew Rhys really look like Berle and Carlin. Amazing work by actors and makeup.
Very fun going directly into watching the first episode being broadcast tonight. Really looking forward to the 50th tomorrow night.

Amazon is taking control of the James Bond movie franchise
Ready for the Bond-extended Universe?Amazon MGM Studios, the tech giant's film unit, plans to take "creative control" of the James Bond series under a new deal with the franchise's longtime producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
The deal will result in a "new joint venture to house the James Bond intellectual property rights, and those parties will remain co-owners of the franchise," the business partners said in a news release. When the transaction is closed, Amazon MGM Studios will "gain creative control of the James Bond franchise."

A couple of thoughts...
- Amazon allows for theatrical releases and I'd be completely shocked if they don't do so with any James Bond movies.
- I'd also be completely shocked if there aren't spin off EBU TV shows
- I can't believe none of you gave me a good ... opportunity with all of the Bond you've been throwing about

Re: Movies
I went through a Bond phase, probably in middle school. Last one I saw was Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). My Father-in-Law is the only person I know who cares about Bond movies, but he refuses to watch any movie made after 1973. “No good movies were made after 1973.” He constantly takes out the same movies and Hogan’s Heroes DVDs from the library. And travel shows from the 80s.Giff wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 1:37 pm Is this when I admit I've only seen one Bond movie all the way through?

The plots usually are complicated enough you to pay attention so you can understand what's happening.A_B wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 3:04 pmWell, they ain't exactly Citizen Kane now.DSafetyGuy wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 3:01 pmGonna make Bond movies to be used as background noise while you look at your phone.

My favorite Amazon - Bond item was the 007: Road to a Million game show. Brian Cox thought he was getting a role in a Bond movie and then learned there was no script.

I've watched all the Bond movies, and find them quite entertaining, in a mindless thriller sort of way. I don't even like Daniel Craig much as an actor. But the formula works.
Was hoping for an Idris Alba turn in the role. But it seems like that time has passed.

We watched "Conclave" the other night. Liked it pretty well...very well done. But we did have questions about where the John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Ralph Fiennes characters are supposed to be from. I thought it was obvious that the Tucci character was American, but not sure about the other two.
And Isabella Rosselini was amazing.
