Almost great from a Saturday night with the family, eating pizza standpoint. A few chuckles, some nostalgia, just a bit flat though. Still would recommend with expectations managed.wlu_lax6 wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 1:20 pm Electric Slate is a really interesting idea, but came up short. Very interesting visual/character/art. But then some bad CGI, average acting (by some big names who just played it like other characters they have played in the past). Allstar cast.....Millie Bobby Brown, Chriss Pratt, Tucci, Key Huy Quan (Short Round), Jason Alexander, Woody Harelson, and others. Hollywood loves Qiancarlo Esposito. He is good but he is not so great he has to be in everything.
Also feels like Chris Pratt feels like he gets to pick the music in his movies since Guardians of the Galaxy.

Sundance moving to Boulder starting in 2027. Should be enough time to get my place AirBnB-ready.

I don’t even know the backstory. Was it because movies can have the gay in them?

Someone hold me to the commitment I just made to myself to get unsober and see The Accountant 2 in the theater.

Made a reference to the 1987 movie Summer School at work...man I am old. Then I saw a recent picture of Francis "Chainsaw" Gremp/Dave Marshak (ski school 1 & 2)and realized how old we really all are.
At least the guy who played Dave Frazier lived the life you expect after playing that role. (As the 1980s came to a close, he spent much of his time following the Grateful Dead and later Phil Lesh and Friends and has said he lived off residual checks for almost twenty years after leaving Hollywood).
and the guy whose "zipper was stuck" has a kid who played for Ohio State and a few NFL teams.

I was 17 when that movie was in theaters and I'm not sure I could've fallen harder for an actress than Courtney Thorne-Smith.
Jebus.
(If I recall, Mark Harmon has a weird teacher-student "charged" relationship to the point I'm not sure this movie gets made today, but I haven't seen the movie in over 20 years, so... I could be off.)

I saw it in the theater, would have been 11 yo. I remember knowing I wasn’t getting a lot of the jokes. Probably a lot of sex and drugs related material.Nonlinear FC wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:28 pm I was 17 when that movie was in theaters and I'm not sure I could've fallen harder for an actress than Courtney Thorne-Smith.

She was pursuing him, including asking him for a place to stay in exchange for trying to pass the state exam (similar to Dave and Chainsaw screening "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in class, Mark Harmon being the Lamaze partner for the pregnant girl, etc.).govmentchedda wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:50 pmIIRC, it was a Lolita/Don't Stand So Close to Me type thing.Nonlinear FC wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:28 pmI was 17 when that movie was in theaters and I'm not sure I could've fallen harder for an actress than Courtney Thorne-Smith.

I don’t think that subplot gets made today but Harmon never touches her or even shows any romantic interest. It’s not really that gross.

Yeah, it was done to put another block between him and Kirstie Alley, who he was actually pursuing. Alley shows up at his place while Thorne-Smith is staying there and has made dinner, which made him look like he was dating a student.brian wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 9:52 pmI don’t think that subplot gets made today but Harmon never touches her or even shows any romantic interest. The only sketchy thing he did was let her live there and it was implied her only other option was homelessness. If it were a male student he’d be a hero. I will not tolerate trying to turn Mr Schoop into a sex pest.

This AI slop sucks, but if it gets people watching more Miyazaki then that’s at least ameliorating the damage.

Just watched The Boy and The Heron. Enjoyable but probably not top-5 Ghibli.

Very much a why would MacFarlane even bother unless it’s actually funny situation. Though a group of funny people did make a mostly unfunny Ghostbusters movie so who knows…

Something I think about a lot is that the most devastating diss of Papa Doc in the final rap battle of 8 Mile is that he went to an elite private school which is so Midwestern.

Give “I Lied to You” track 8 off the Sinners soundtrack a go and track 13 “Pale Pale Moon” by Jayme Lawson a listen as well…

Black Bag on Netflix was a fun spy thriller with more intrigue than action. Exceptional cast. Well-written.
