Of all post-WWII players to have NEVER made an MLB all-star team, who has the highest career OPS (.884)?

There's a good hint for this once it goes without a correct answer.

Sorry for forgetting I posted this. Chedda, go ahead and give them your hint.

It's the 90s era but not someone you'd think of and say "slugger", and certainly a guy I would have expected to have made an All Star team.

Tony Phillips has the most career WAR by a non-All Star.

Being shot shortens careers, which may be a reason why a player who could hit that well didn't make an all-star team. Also, a short career can keep the career OPS high.

Another angle is that this guy played a position with a lot of good hitters. So:

Alvin Davis, Seattle first-baseman in the 80s

Guys who have come to mind but I believe either don't quite fit that time frame of were too likely to be all-stars:

Richie Sexson
Leon Durham
Moises Alou
Brian Giles
Kevin Mitchell
Jay Buhner
trot Nixon

So I'll guess all of them, to speed this up a bit.

I agree. Way too good, right off the bat in his career, to not make an all-star team. It was an era with a lot of heavy-hitting corner outfielders, but this is still a big surprise. Was he a notoriously slow starter, so his stats didn't look good in early July?

How on earth did Salmon not make the All-Star team in either 1995 or 1997?

1995: .330/.429/.594, 34 HRs, 105 RBI, 111 Rs
1997: .296/.394/.517, 33 HRs, 129 RBI, 95 Rs

His 1995 splits aren't crazy either, so it's not like he had a stupid post-ASG run

And I know they needed a SS, but Gary DiSarcina was on that All-Star team and not Salmon

I'm really having trouble reconciling this. I would have knee-jerk assumed he had an overrated career in terms of rewards relative to value.

251 OFs have 3,000+ PA since 1985, Salmon is 13th in wOBA. Between Griffey Jr. and Juan-Gone. That's pretty f'ing good.

Did they get Mike Carp?

They've got an outfielder in the Midwest League name of Mike Fish. Perhaps they'll have a Carp-Trout-Fish outfield next year.

It was awesome when Bass pitched to Trout a couple weeks ago.

No doubt he threw his hook and nibbled at the corners, hoping Trout would bite.

Must have been a fun moment for the announcers. An opportunity to make the Pun Hall of Fame.
