man - MLB just sticks Hinch and Cora in a corner for a year and poof! back again - no worries guys!
having (once) been a Red Sox fan for a long long time - and i'm sure this applies to every fanbase, not gonna be too naive here - i'm sure there's a lot of bending over backwards to justify it. Not to mention if this were, say, the Yankees there'd be all sorts of online haymakers thrown.
but yeah, the timing was/is pretty impressive :D
As a Tigers fan, I could make a case that Hinch's punishment actually got worse.

So Justin Turner is told he is positive for the most contagious deadly virus in a century, is forced to leave a deciding WS game, then willingly goes out and puts his peers and the press in danger and suffers no consequences. If you're the President then fine, but I like to think we hold our ballplayers to a higher standard.

He’s in Nevada. As we are all witnessing, time moves differently there.

Any time you can unload your best player and a huge pile of cash at the same time, you do it.

After listening to Rosenthal break down the trade a little more it’s starting to make some sense. Arenado had a no trade clause with an opt out after the 2021 season. Thoughts were that he was going to opt out and would likely walk during free agency. So now the Cardinals take the risk of the opt out and basically sold some mid tier prospects for the 50million. Still a crazy deal and good for St Louis for landing a massive fish.

This is the type of trade the Yankees typically pounce upon, and deal Urshela the same day for younger pitching in the process.
Stanton kills that idea though, because Brian Cashman is probably the most overrated professional on the planet.

Any idea how the Rockies’ cash commitment is structured? If Arenado opts out after this year, how much salary are the Rockies covering?

From what I've heard, if Arenado opts out after 21 or 22 (that was added on in restructuring) the Rockies owe nothing. So the Cardinals will have to dodge two bullets, not one.

Its hard to ever know without knowing which moves the family has dictated or blocked. They do incredibly well with smaller signings and not trading the wrong prospects but the massive dollar deals miss as often as they hit, at best.

I think it's safe to say Hal has Cashman on a tight leash this off-season. Letting a middle of the rotation Tanaka go back to Japan proved that.
