I'm gonna need to know some background here. There are some house niggas but it's pretty bold for a white man to make that determination. Audible gasps. Some clearly black man in the background says WTF? Solid council meeting there. Just seems like the kind of meetings people attend strapped. Or maybe in the console or gunrack. I'd like to see a little bit more of these guys. The tell is the "oh-kay" by the sister near the mic. About to get some shots off.

What are house niggas? I'd do my race a disservice if my considerably non-woke self attempted to explain that slave charactature. Kinda devoid of options on this board though some history types could make a good go. I'm sure chuck d has explained it in song at some point. KRS One now that I think a bit more. Since your the intellectual type maybe cornel west or other full time student has books or quicker some slow talk crossed legged beard pulling soliloquy on pbs.

Re: Random Politics
So here's something and it has larger political effects overall.
Arizona is blue-ish and the Democratic electees absolutely don't want to be the ones known for closing the A-10 down in any way, shape, or form at Davis-Monthan.
However, the Air Force wants to consolidate the Rescue mission and retire a part of the A-10 fleet to do it.
Sooooo....Nope. The AF is now putting its future of the base's mission on hold because of political calculation.
I have no dog in this fight either way because I retire next year and couldn't care less, but it's kinda funny to watch politicians try to save their own asses by shooting down what a military branch wants to do.

You see...I don't have a problem with tying loan forgiveness to a degree or at least a reasonable effort towards a degree. You graduated and still have federal loans? Pay em off. You're in school and progressing towards a degree? Pay em off. You get the loans and go get a 0.5 GPA? Ehhh......
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Re: Random Politics
If you can rack up 70k with a GPA of 0.5 you’re a special kind of genius so you can probably figure it out.
My daughter qualified for small amounts of federal money each year from BU. It’s a much smaller bit of the pie than loans that are not federally guaranteed which I assume would be the only ones anyone would dream the government could actually forgive. If you got that much you’re probably “progressing towards a degree” which may have been mentioned.

Re: Random Politics
Student loan forgiveness will be a disaster unless it is paid for by the institutions that have misused the money through predatory practices, bad degree offerings or poor advice to their students. Some of the for-profits have abused veterans and current military. The problem isn't with most public/private undergrads. It's with the for-profit and grad degrees. Here's a good example to show some of that.

Wouldn't those victim to the more predatory lending be "more" deserving of relief?

Re: Random Politics
While active duty, I'm afforded Tuition Assistance. $4,500 every fiscal year free and clear to use on a degree program. It's fairly generous. It breaks down to $250 per credit hour, but no more.
For an undergrad you have to maintain a C or better. And for graduate degrees you have to maintain a B or better in order to not have to pay the money back.
I don't even have to tap into my GI Bill at all. I got my undergrad from American Military University (yes, that's a real school) and because I didn't have bad grades, I have zero debt from it.
It was a good enough degree to get me into Western Kentucky and go for this MBA.*
But these Degree Mill Universities really, really do take advantage of the ease and convenience of online schooling. Very enticing for those who are busy and trying to get higher education because the system sucks. And since veterans are an easy target for so many things, they for sure suffer.
*(But I have to be honest, despite knocking out the prerequisite class and my first class well enough, the analytics class I signed up for completely baffled me and I had to drop it. Between not understanding what I was reading/watching and dealing with my wife's diagnosis at the time, I couldn't hack it. I am sure I can pass, but I'll need help.)

Re: Random Politics
Absolutely. Just like the debt incurred through bad home loans the ones who got screwed need a way out. Many didn't even come away with anything of value and just have debt.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 8:40 pm Wouldn't those victim to the more predatory lending be "more" deserving of relief?
I wouldn't forgive debt for anyone that got it through a grad degree and focus relief on those that attended a for-profit for 1-2 years. You pay for it by penalizing schools for low-grade rates and poor post-grad employment.
Tough love for those who are 100K+ in debt after going to grad school to get their masters in Journalism with no way to pay for it. For those I would look to prevention through loan restrictions/limits for certain fields.
And Johnnie what is the analytics class? Do you have a link to the description. Depending on what it looks like I may be able to help out a bit.

You're just going to see more and more international students because they pay double or triple the tuition, in cash. That'll keep the colleges rich and the government covers less loans. It'll be the college equivalent of outsourcing. There's a loophole for everything.
And there's no way there should be relief for grad school. Undergrad only, if even that.

(1) Its incredible how many lives and families Cori Bush more or less singlehandedly just saved and (2) it shits all over the idea that Biden/Schumer/Pelosi are powerless rather unwilling.

Re: Random Politics
Everyone's favorite Dan Crenshaw tells a bunch of Republicans that Trump really did lose the election...and mayhem ensues...
Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw told supporters Trump lost to Biden. The Republican was heckled and called a RINO.
Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw told supporters Trump lost to Biden. The Republican was heckled and called a RINO.
But at a GOP fundraiser in Illinois on Wednesday night, the Texan clashed with a fellow Republican after Crenshaw told the crowd the 2020 election was not stolen and the results would not be overturned. Trump falsely claimed he won the race long after the electoral college backed the winner, President Biden, and dozens of judges rejected claims of election fraud.
“Don’t kid yourself into believing that’s why we lost. It’s not,” Crenshaw told the crowd.
Bobby Piton, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Illinois, disagreed. In a 54-second clip posted to his campaign’s YouTube account, Piton can be seen interrupting Crenshaw, saying he has “plenty of proof” the presidential election was stolen and the outcome would be reversed.
Re: Random Politics
Between that and his Simone Biles take, I'm not positive that's the real Dan Crenshaw. Is the patch on the same eye?

And that's just for his cringe-as-fuck videos during election season.
