Re: Movies
Saw avengers this morning. So not impressed.
But the theater was full at 1040 on a beautiful Saturday. So I expect it to make a trillion dlllars.

Because I think I did. The opening was great. Given that Cap 3 will be an Avengers movie in all but name, and the apparent plot, I was expecting Stark's relationship with the rest of the group to be a little more frayed by the end of the movie than it was.
Also, the mid-credits scene would have been more appropriate after GotG.
I bought a ticket to a 5:30 show, which ended up being in Spanish, (if it was advertised as such on the website, it was not clear to me), but they were nice enough to let me into the 5PM showing instead. I walked in mid-previews, so I'm assuming I missed the Star Wars trailer. Dammit.

Re: Movies
There was no star wars trailer in my showing. But there was an Insidious 3, which was fun with my scared of the dark daughter sitting next to me.
I don't know how much I enjoyed myself, but I do know that I was sitting too close to appreciate the movie I think. I probably need to watch it again when it hits the discount movies. It was difficult to keep up with some of the stuff from the third row on the aisle.

I think I was in the third row, too. It was a little much to take in.

Avengers made 181 million more than the second place finisher this weekend at the box office.

Re: Movies
I saw Age of Ultron at the last showing of the 3D XD theater at the mall and was really impressed with it. But I could see having close up seats killing, or at least tamping down, the enjoyment factor.

This is an old story, but I recently read it and loved it.

I don't think I can over hype Mad Max too much. If you liked the trailers, go see it ASAP. Holy shit.

Re: Movies
Robert Redford's The Company That You Keep was a compromise choice on the couch the other night and it succeeded in putting me to sleep three times. My wife kept waking me to ask about certain plot points, but as the movie contained nothing but expositional dialogue until the very end, I couldn't figure it out either.
Set in the present day - 60's radical on the lam for a crime he didn't commit back in the day.
As the producer, director and star, Robert Redford really knows how to produce the sorts of films that nobody wants to see. Brutal. And the scenes of Redford with his 11 year old daughter were surreal.

My kids are too young for Fury Road, but I did watch The Road Warrior with them the other night. It's rated R, but if it came out today, it would be PG-13 at worst. They loved it. Good kids.
I just saw this trailer today and I think it looks pretty awesome. It's like Chuck combined with Pineapple Express.

Saw Mad Max last night. Awesome. Why a heavy metal band never thought to have a guitar/flame thrower before is beyond me. The GF even enjoyed it...saying "It was good....in a very Mad Max kind of way....".
Saw the trailer for the Brian Wilson movie "Love and Mercy", starring both Paul Dano and John Cusack as Wilson, with Paul Giamatti as his therapist/svengali/manipulator Eugene Landy. Looks good..

Eric Forman as the leader of the team from the DoD or CIA or whatever hunting down Jason Bourne/Chuck? 80s video games and a mulleted Peter Dinklage are still not enough to get me to see this new Adam Sandler movie.

Re: Movies
shoot, got cut off...
i often thought while reading it that it could be a better movie than book. Very believable story but the writing (to me) got way too bogged down in technical/scientific details. Personal preferences and all that, i'm sure, but it slowed when describing CO2 and oxygen percentage etc etc.

I really enjoyed Jurassic World. Not great by any means by it was one of the better 3D movies I've seen.

The Good Lie was a solid introduction to the plight of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan.
Well intentioned and deliberately unspectacular, but due to the almost unbelievable nature of what happened to these kids, gripping nonetheless.

Re: Movies
Wild Tales is the most entertaining movie I have seen in a long time (maybe since Inglorious Basterds.
I can't praise this movie enough - from start to finish it just kept getting better. It's an anthology of six stories ranging in length from 5 minutes to a half hour, and each story is about revenge. A couple of the stories are funny (and one is insane), a couple are suspenseful...
I won't give anything away about any of the stories, but each of them is brilliantly told.

I'm a little suprised Will smith signed on to a movie where he is probably going to be third banana at best. Joker's gonna steal the show, and Harley Quinn will too. Margot Robbie is a smokeshow even when trying not to be.tennbengal wrote:Had no interest in Suicide Squad. Then trailer dropped. And now I do. I am such an easy mark:

No doubt. And maybe a good move for Smith at this point - he can see from the Marvel-verse that you can share screen time and still be a star - and whole movie doesn't rest on him.A_B wrote:I'm a little suprised Will smith signed on to a movie where he is probably going to be third banana at best. Margot Robbie looks amazing in that role.
A really, really well done trailer - the music a deft choice.

And, for those who don't read the comics and don't know the DC universe, this is a helpful primer breaking down that trailer on who's who:

Forgot to mention that I took AEM and L-Jam4 to see Minions last weekend. Very enjoyable, although there are some scary parts that at even 7 might be a little intense. (Unless my daughter is just a colossal fraidy-cat.)
